She was panting heavily, yet showed no signs of backing down.
"You..." Sebastian's gaze turned glacial.
Helena backed away, but he continued to stalk toward her, step by deliberate step.
He didn't stop until he had backed her into a corner.
She was petite, easily trapped within his imposing shadow.
"Don't play the rebel with me, Lena. It won't get you anywhere. Here in Riverton, you are out of your depth," he murmured, his voice dropping to a dangerous register. "Go back inside right now, swallow your pride, and apologize to Janetta. Do that, and I'll let this go. Otherwise—"
His voice trailed off into a whisper, but the chilling threat hung heavy in the air.
It was enough to make anyone's blood run cold.
"Don't blame me for disregarding our seven years of marriage," he finished coldly.
He stared down at her from his height advantage.
He knew her true nature—she was inherently timid, cautious, and had always revolved her entire world around him.
Bringing up divorce was merely a tactic, a desperate act of rebellion.
She was just using it as leverage because of the situation with Janetta.
Now that she had thrown her tantrum, it was time for her to quit while she was ahead.
He fully expected her to submit. Honestly, whether she actually apologized didn't matter to him.
All he wanted was her submission.
Instead, Sebastian found himself utterly stunned.
A sharp smack rang out as Helena marshaled all her strength and slapped him hard across the face.
The force of the blow snapped his head to the side. Shock and raw fury instantly flooded his eyes.
"You dare hit me?" His jaw clenched so tight the words seemed to be ground out from the back of his throat.
"I will never apologize to an actress like her in this lifetime!" she yelled back.
With a sudden burst of energy, she shoved him away. "Never! You're a brainless bastard, Sebastian!"
Her furious outburst left The Butler, who had just stepped out, standing in stunned silence.
They were just two completely mismatched people.
But if he disliked her so much, why refuse to sign the divorce papers?
Still, as an employee, it wasn't his place to speak up.
Watching Helena's retreating figure, Sebastian pulled out his phone and dialed Carter Miles. "Give her exactly three days. If she can't come up with the money, seize the apartment. I want to see exactly where else she thinks she can hide in Riverton!"
"Understood," Carter replied promptly.
Hanging up, Sebastian turned on his heel and strode back into the master bedroom.
Janetta was resting there—in the very spot that had once belonged to Helena.
"Seb, how is Lena doing?" Janetta asked, her tone dripping with manufactured sweetness as she looked up at him.
"What did the doctor say?" he asked, completely ignoring her question.
"The baby is fine. The doctor said I just had a little scare and need to be more careful. They also mentioned my placenta position is a bit tricky, which puts the pregnancy at risk," she murmured, looking appropriately anxious.
Her delicate hands reached out, gently clinging to his arm.
