Helena stood rooted to the spot for a long time, a dull ache throbbing in her lower abdomen.
They were both pregnant, yet the treatment they received was worlds apart.
No matter the time or place, Sebastian only had eyes for Janetta. He never truly saw his wife.
A single word from Janetta outweighed countless pleas from Helena.
Time and time again, right up until this moment, it had completely extinguished any remaining hope in her heart.
She balled her hands into tight fists. Just as she felt she was about to break, Sebastian emerged from the villa.
He strode toward her, his predatory aura pressing down on her so heavily that her breathing hitched.
A sharp slap echoed in the air.
Sebastian's hand had struck Helena's cheek.
He pointed an accusing finger at her. "Helena, do you have any idea she's pregnant? How could you push her like that?"
A distinct red handprint blossomed across Helena's cheek.
It stood out starkly against her luminous skin.
Her eyes grew red with the stinging pain, yet she remained remarkably calm in the face of his accusations.
"She threw herself down. I never even touched her," she replied, keeping her spine rigid, enunciating every single word.
"Are you still trying to lie?" Sebastian's fury flared higher.
His large hand shot out, wrapping tightly around her throat.
Instantly, a suffocating wave crashed over her, stealing the air from her lungs.
For a terrified second, she genuinely believed he was going to kill her.
"Do you honestly think Jana has nothing better to do than risk her own life and her baby's just to frame you?" He scoffed, thoroughly unconvinced. "Not everyone is as cheap as you. Not everyone would strip down and beg me to sleep with them, got it?"
His words were like serrated blades, slicing ruthlessly into her soul.
Yet, this new, defiant version of Helena unsettled him.
She felt like a total stranger.
"Don't project your filthy mindset onto me. There's a security camera right above your head. Check the footage, and you'll see whether I pushed her or if she threw herself down," she stated clearly. "All I want is my mother's apartment. I've done everything you've ever asked of me. What more do you want?"
"What do I want?" Sebastian let out a dark laugh.
Her rebellion was thoroughly irritating him.
He grabbed her arm, dragging her toward the villa.
"I said, you will stay put in the Hayes estate. Until I say we're getting a divorce, you don't get a say in the matter," he stated blankly. "Otherwise, you can kiss that apartment goodbye."
"Never! I am not going back in there!" Helena yanked her arm free with all her might.
It was a level of absolute resolve she had never shown before.
