The sudden jolt threw Helena entirely off balance, sending her pitching forward into Sebastian's chest. Under the circumstances, him catching her was a perfectly natural reflex.
"Thank you," she stated coldly, violently yanking herself out of his grasp the exact second she regained her footing.
Sebastian watched her furious retreat in silence, his expression completely blank as he offered a low hum. A moment later, the heavy metal doors were finally pried apart. The maintenance crew had managed to lower the cabin to align perfectly with the thirteenth floor. Waiting just beyond the threshold were Julian, Janetta, and the hotel's entire senior management team.
"Ms. Wallace! Mr. Hayes! We are so, so incredibly sorry for this catastrophic failure!" Mr. Lee, the hotel's General Manager, was practically dripping with cold sweat as he bowed frantically. "We take full responsibility. Your entire stay will be fully comped, and we will absolutely accommodate any demands for compensation you see fit."
Julian shoved past the groveling executives and immediately pulled Helena to his side. "Are you okay?" he demanded, scanning her pale face.
"I'm fine," she murmured, shaking her head.
From a few feet away, Janetta's gaze snapped from Helena to Sebastian. Her sharp female intuition immediately flared with alarm. She could swear Sebastian's eyes were glued to the younger woman.
"Sebastian? Are you hurt?" Janetta asked, stepping forward with sickly-sweet concern.
He brushed her off with a curt hum. Neither CEO bothered to acknowledge the terrified General Manager, leaving the poor man shivering in his soaked suit.
Julian fixed Mr. Lee with a murderous glare. "I expect a full diagnostic report on this incident by morning. I want to know exactly what caused that malfunction."
"Yes, absolutely, sir! We will provide a thorough explanation immediately," Mr. Lee practically babbled.
