Julian closed the distance between them in wide strides. "What happened?"
"I'll explain when we get back," Helena replied, keeping her composure.
Julian didn't press her. He quickly ushered her into the car.
Her assistant and the driver took the other vehicle.
As soon as Helena settled into the passenger seat, Julian turned his gaze to her.
Helena met his eyes calmly. "Is Skye asleep?"
"Aunt Claire picked her up. She happened to be handling some business here in Seapearl City. When she heard we were heading back tomorrow, she offered to take her to save us the trip," Julian explained.
Helena nodded but remained quiet.
Julian drove in silence, his lips pressed into a tight line as if trying to figure out how to broach the subject.
Knowing exactly what was on his mind, Helena decided to bridge the gap herself after a brief pause.
"There was an incident," she began softly.
She gave him a brief rundown of what had transpired.
She didn't even omit the fact that she had run into Sebastian.
There was no point in hiding it; the truth always had a way of coming out.
Lying would only deepen the inevitable misunderstandings.
However, she purposely left out the part where she and Sebastian had slept together.
"I'll look into it," Julian said, his voice dropping an octave. "I want to see who has the nerve to mess with me on this coast."
"If my guess is right, it's the Li Family," Helena replied smoothly.
Julian understood immediately. "Leave it to me. I'll handle them."
"Alright," Helena murmured.
The car rolled to a stop at a red light.
Julian finally turned his full attention back to her. The conflicted look in his eyes was impossible to miss.
As a man, he could sense that Sebastian's attitude toward Helena had fundamentally shifted.
He also knew that the Helena sitting beside him was entirely different from the woman she used to be.
But that subconscious, visceral worry was still there.
It was a man's intuition.
The male equivalent of a woman's sixth sense.
Julian was terrified of the embers reigniting between Helena and Sebastian.
