He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 73

Faced with his question, Helena stayed silent, merely looking at him.

Sebastian didn't seem to mind. "Let's take a step back," he continued. "Say I let you go right now, pretending I never knew you were pregnant. Have you actually thought about what happens when the baby is born? Are you going to remarry with a kid in tow? Fine, even if you stay single, have you figured out how you're going to raise a child all by yourself?"

"..."

"When the baby gets sick in the middle of the night with a fever, what are you going to do? You have to work—where does the kid go? Are you taking a newborn to the office? Even if you work from home, do you really think you can balance a career and an infant without dropping the ball? Your boss might forgive you once, but what about the second time?"

He laid out the reality, stripping away her defenses piece by piece.

Helena was left speechless, the harsh truth backing her into a corner. He was right. Keeping the baby was a visceral instinct; she hadn't mapped out the logistics. Returning to New York meant endless overtime and relentless pressure. She wouldn't even have the energy to care for a child. She could hire a nanny, but what was the point of having a baby just to hand them off to a stranger?

"Alright, let's look further ahead," Sebastian pressed, leaning in closer. "When the kid grows up and asks where their father is, what's your answer? Are you going to recount our bitter divorce? Or tell them their father is dead? Do you want your child growing up in a broken home?"

It was the most brutal question he could have asked.

Helena's chest tightened painfully. She had grown up in a single-parent household, raised entirely by a mother who had slowly unraveled. She knew exactly what kind of psychological scars a fractured family left behind. She lived in constant fear of one day becoming as twisted as her own mother.

She had no counterargument. Her previous resolve melted away under the weight of his logic.
