He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 76

"Mr. Hayes, Ms. Ramirez is at the hospital. She just arrived," Carter said quickly.

Sebastian's brows snapped together. "Understood." He hung up and strode swiftly toward the hospital lobby.

He hadn't told Janetta he was spending his days coaxing Helena. First, he didn't want to risk upsetting Janetta given her pregnancy. Second, he knew exactly how manipulative Janetta could be, and he wanted to keep the drama to a minimum. He never expected her to show up unannounced.

A flicker of intense irritation crossed his mind. But on the surface, his protective instincts over Janetta quickly masked his annoyance.

"Sebastian!" Janetta called out, spotting him near the elevators.

He closed the distance between them. "What are you doing here?" His tone was sharp, carrying an edge of displeasure.

Janetta, an expert at reading his moods, instantly softened her approach. "Did you forget?" she pouted, her voice dripping with sweet vulnerability. "I have my check-up today. The doctor said my condition was unstable and I needed weekly monitoring just to be safe."

Her tone was so delicate, almost a playful reproach. It hit Sebastian instantly—he had been so consumed with keeping Helena in line that he had completely neglected Janetta. And yet, she wasn't throwing a tantrum. Even faced with his harsh tone, she was acting like the perfect, understanding partner.

The contrast between her sweet compliance and Helena's stubborn defiance was glaring. A sharp pang of guilt hit him.

"I'm sorry. I've been overwhelmed with work," he lied smoothly, his apology entirely sincere. "I'll go with you to see the doctor."

"Okay," Janetta smiled radiantly, seamlessly slipping her hand into his.

Her voice trembled with perfectly calibrated insecurity, her eyes welling up with tears. She knew exactly how to trigger his protective instincts.

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Helena standing near the corner of the corridor. A subtle, triumphant smirk tugged at the corner of Janetta's lips. Every word out of her mouth was calculated, designed specifically for Helena to hear. She was never going to give her rival a fighting chance. What a joke.

"Jana, don't overthink things," Sebastian commanded, his tone fiercely possessive. "I'm not going anywhere. You're the only one I'm going to be with."

With his back to the corridor, he had absolutely no idea Helena was standing mere feet away.

Janetta looked up at him with wide, tear-filled eyes. "Seb, are you hiding something from me? It's okay. I'm not that fragile. I know my place." Her voice dripped with wounded nobility. "I told you, I won't fight Helena for anything. You don't have to keep your decisions from me."
