She didn't put up a single fight the entire way back.
He held her hand tightly the whole time, as if terrified she might shatter if he let go.
They rode in complete silence.
It wasn't until she stepped through the front doors of the lavish estate and The Butler rushed over with a beaming smile, saying, "Welcome home, Ma'am," that the surrealness of it all finally hit her.
"I'll take you upstairs to rest. I've already had the kitchen prepare some tonic for you. You've lost way too much weight this past month; the doctor said you barely even look pregnant," he murmured, his tone gentle and coaxing.
She looked up, meeting his eyes with eerie calmness.
"Did you want to say something?" he asked smoothly. The biting cruelty he used to treat her with was completely gone, replaced by a warm, protective veneer.
"I want to see Wynn," she stated clearly.
He lowered his gaze, pausing for a fraction of a second before shutting her down. "That's not a good idea right now. He's unstable and still in the ICU. Once his condition improves, I'll personally take you to see him."
She stayed silent. She knew exactly what he was doing. He was holding her brother hostage to keep her in line.
And he knew she would never risk her brother's life, especially now that she knew he was still alive.
He held her gaze with perfect composure, his voice softening even further. "Just give it some time. You're barely stable yourself. You need to focus on your own recovery first, don't you think?"
"Fine," she replied curtly, offering nothing more.
As if sensing her deep distrust, he offered a firm vow. "I keep my promises, Lena. Stop overthinking things."
With that, he guided her gently upstairs to the master bedroom.
The Butler had already prepared the room flawlessly.
She climbed into the plush bed, utterly exhausted.
"Once you're feeling better, I'll have the interior designer come over. You can tell them exactly how you want the nursery decorated," he rambled on, meticulously planning their perfect future.
She remained completely apathetic.
In the past, her blatant indifference would have sparked a furious argument.
But today, he was terrifyingly patient. He didn't seem to care that she was giving him the cold shoulder.
