Julian's mouth dropped open as he prepared to argue, but Sebastian quickly pushed him out the door to grab the pastries.

"Weren't you starving half an hour ago? Go get them!"

"..."

...

Stella headed straight back to The Sterling Residences.

When she fell, her clothes had gotten dirty, and there were even a few small bloodstains on her cuffs, so she changed into a fresh outfit.

Catching a glimpse of her pale, exhausted face in the mirror, Stella brushed through her hair and applied a touch of lipstick to make herself look slightly more alive.

The scrape on her palm wasn't actually too severe. To keep it dry, she covered it with a bandage, which made it practically unnoticeable.

The main problem was her ankle. It couldn't bear weight, making it impossible to walk normally.

She still had to attend dinner at the Fuller Manor later tonight. If Jarrod could come pick her up, things would be infinitely easier.

After a moment of hesitation, Stella pulled out her phone and sent Jarrod a text.

[Jarrod, are you done with work?]

It didn't take long for Jarrod to reply: [Do you need something?]

[Today is Jasper's birthday, and the family is having dinner at the manor. Do you have time to go?]

There was a pause of a few seconds before Jarrod's next message came through: [I'm at the hospital. I'll head over later.]

He's probably still keeping Chloe company, she thought.

Stella considered asking how Chloe was doing, but quickly decided against it, feeling it wasn't her place. In the end, she deleted the draft.

She simply replied with a single word: [Okay.]

Downstairs in the hospital cafe.

Jarrod was staring at the chat screen. The "Typing..." indicator had been flashing endlessly before abruptly stopping, ultimately resulting in nothing but an [Okay.]

It took her that long to type four letters?

Jarrod unlocked his screen to check his messages. Stella had sent back a single word: [No.]

Late last night, Jarrod had actually called Jasper to ask where he and Stella had gone.

Jasper had long forgotten his earlier annoyance and eagerly launched into a play-by-play of their day together.

"Stella has incredibly good taste! The limited-edition figurines she picked out for me are so cool and niche! She actually knows a ton about gaming and anime, so there's zero generation gap when we talk."

Jasper continued happily, "I also love the clothes, shoes, and hats she chose for me, every single item enhances my handsomeness perfectly! Shopping with Stella is the best. It's a good thing you didn't come, or it definitely wouldn't have been this fun!"

Jarrod asked casually, "She only picked out things for you?"

"Yeah! I told her to buy herself something she liked since you gave her the black card and there was no need to save your money. But Stella just said she already had everything she needed."

Jarrod drawled in a nonchalant tone, "It was my card, and you didn't even think to suggest she buy something for me?"

Jasper was entirely oblivious. "I did suggest it! But Stella said all your suits and shoes are custom-made, so you don't need off-the-rack clothes!"

Finding the conversation increasingly pointless, Jarrod was about to hang up when Jasper suddenly dropped his voice into a dramatic whisper. "Jarrod, I think I discovered a little secret about Stella today."
