He Never Noticed Me Until I Loved Someone Else novel Chapter 40

Bantering back and forth, Jarrod and Chloe walked off together, with the assistant tactfully trailing behind them.

Stella was left standing completely alone.

Leaning against the wall, it took a long time for her racing heart to calm down.

After lingering for a few more minutes, Stella figured Jarrod and Chloe had safely returned to the private room and turned to head back herself.

To her surprise, Cassidy found her first.

Radiating absolute joy, Cassidy sprinted over. "Stella! Weren't you just going to the restroom? How did you end up out here? I waited forever for you to come back!"

Stella shook her head. "It's nothing, I just needed some fresh air. Looking at you, it seems like you have some amazing news?"

"I do!"

Cassidy couldn't contain her excitement. "Mr. Fuller left, but before he did, he announced that our team worked incredibly hard, and he had a special reward prepared for us—brand-new laptops for everyone!"

"His assistant just brought them in. They're the absolute latest models, maxed-out specs! Mr. Fuller is incredibly generous; this is way better than a standard bonus!"

Stella was stunned.

Jarrod actually bought every single one of her team members a top-of-the-line laptop?

"Fess up, did you secretly 'convince' Mr. Fuller to do this?" Cassidy asked, wiggling her eyebrows.

Remembering their phone call that morning, Stella sighed. "I wish, but I don't carry that kind of weight with him."

Knowing exactly what Stella’s marriage entailed, Cassidy waved it off. "I was just messing with you. Why are you sighing? The point is, we got our reward!"

"You've been wanting to replace that ancient brick of a laptop anyway, this is perfect timing!"

She wasn't wrong.

Stella's laptop was years old and practically unusable for heavy work.

"Come on, let's go grab our new tech!"

It was obvious that once they got into the car, Jarrod had personally handed it to her.

"I thought only our team got them. Turns out she got one too, and a custom color at that."

Cassidy rolled her eyes so hard they almost got stuck. "Mr. Fuller is something else. He paid out of his own pocket to reward us just so his precious girlfriend wouldn't get dragged by HR! Meanwhile, his actual wife is slaving away and gets treated like garbage!"

Stella couldn't help but laugh. "I told you, I'm just a wife on paper. Why are you so mad on my behalf?"

In Stella's eyes, regardless of what hidden motive Jarrod had for giving out the reward, as long as her team benefited, that was enough.

After dinner, Stella hailed a cab back to the penthouse, holding her brand-new laptop.

On the way, Summer called.

Remembering the favor she had asked earlier regarding the neurologist, Stella answered the phone immediately.

"Summer! Do you have news about the specialist?"
