Chapter 6
As Adrian looked at me for a long time, something flickered across his face.
Then he said nothing.
He simply picked up the divorce papers.
The room was so quiet I could hear every page turn.
there
At last he spoke, “The townhouse in Tribeca. You’re used to living Keep it. The cars in the garage too. They were supposed to be your birthday gift this year.”
“I’ll transfer five percent of Sterling Group to you.”
Then he signed.
He slid the papers back to me. “There’s no rush. Ov
“Burn it.”
He frowned. “What?”
recover, you can move your things-”
I lowered my eyes to the signed papers and repeated myself, my voice light and dead.
“I don’t want any of it. Burn it all.”
Something shifted in his gaze.
But in the end, he only nodded once.
“Fine. We were married once. Even if we’re divorced, you’ll still be like family to me. If you ever need anything,
come find me.”
“Won’t be necessary. I booked a flight out in three days.”
His hand stopped for the briefest second.
Then he smoothed the papers like nothing had happened.
“Alright,” he said. “I’ll see you off.”
Before I left, I looked one last time at Sienna’s stomach,
That day in the abandoned warehouse, pain had kept me conscious just long enough to hear what I was
never meant to hear.
Sienna had been working with the kidnappers.
The child in her belly was never Adrian’s.
She had gotten pregnant with another man’s sperm to sabotage my wedding.

But before she could force me out completely, I got pregnant too.
Then Adrian started drifting back toward me, back toward the marriage, and that made her panic.
So she joined hands with Victor to get rid of my child.
In other words, that day, I had been the only one in real danger.
I had tried to tell Adrian, only for Sienna to interrupt me, and after that, I never got another chance.
I looked at him and said, “Adrian, you may be blind and stupid when it comes to her…”
“But for the sake of everything that happened between us, there’s something you should know.”
I’ll admit it.
There was malice in me.
I wanted to see his face when he learned the woman he treasured had already been sleeping with someone else to climb higher.
I wanted to see his face when he realized the child he had chosen over mine wasn’t even his.
What would be the expression on his face?
So I leaned forward slightly. “Sienna’s baby-”
Sienna’s eyes flew wide.
She knew.
She cut across me so fast her voice cracked. “Ms. Winslow, it’s time for you to go.”
I looked at Adrian, standing beside her, letting her stop me, and that silence said everything.
For a second, I just stared.
Then I dropped my gaze and smiled. “If you don’t want to hear it, fine. I’ll go.”
