Whitney: [Yes, absolutely!]
The conversation ended.
Whitney's mood was completely lifted. She closed the chat, hesitated for a while, and finally tapped on Seth's profile picture.
She chewed on her fingernail.
Whitney_Goodnight: [Seth, how are things on your end?]
At Luna Bay Villa, House No. 11.
Seth had a cotton swab clamped between his teeth, applying medicinal oil to his waist. His face was untouched, but a massive purplish bruise bloomed across his side.
Seeing Whitney's message, he blinked slowly, grabbed a tissue to wipe the oil off his fingers, and typed back.
Seth: [Home.]
He had replied instantly, instantly putting Whitney at ease.
She continued her show of concern.
Whitney_Goodnight: [That's good, that's good. Did you get hurt?]
Seth: [No.]
Whitney let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. When she found out Seth had gotten into a brawl with those guys, she'd been terrified of getting dragged into the mess.
Whitney_Goodnight: [Seth, you can't be this reckless next time.]
Seth: [Didn't you say he made dirty jokes about you?]
Whitney choked on her next words.
Whitney_Goodnight: [Yeah, but you still shouldn't have started swinging.]
Seth: [He was making crude comments. Do you really think you can reason nicely with trash like that?]
Whitney_Goodnight: [I know, but you're not a kid anymore. You need to act more mature.]
In her head, Whitney automatically compared Seth to Top Dono.
Sure, they both had money, and sure, Seth was young, but he was way too impulsive and immature.
Seth: [Sure.]
Whitney was about to end the conversation when an image suddenly flashed in her mind—the cold, dismissive look Winona had given her at the Ever-Smooth Restaurant during her birthday dinner.
Driven by a sudden, inexplicable impulse, she asked: [If someone made dirty jokes about your sister, would you fight them hard enough to end up in the police station like today?]
She had known Seth for nearly a year and had never once heard him mention having a sister. It was obvious their relationship was terrible.
