Hearing the class president defend her so boldly, Whitney felt a sweet rush of validation. She looked up at the boy's handsome side profile, her eyes brimming with sheer gratitude. "Jonathan..."

Seth let out a dark, mocking laugh. "What the hell does this have to do with you? Who do you think you are?"

He didn't play by their rules. The look he shot Jonathan was no different than looking at a corpse, his face radiating an uncontrollable, vicious aggression.

Jonathan was the quintessential perfect student. He wasn't incredibly handsome, but he was clean-cut, slender, and wore neat glasses. He always spoke and acted with perfect decorum, yet deeply harbored an intense arrogance. He absolutely could not handle failure or disrespect.

Now, hearing Seth speak to him with such raw contempt, Jonathan felt profoundly humiliated. He clenched his fists. "And who do you think you are?"

"Seth, if I remember correctly, last semester you placed dead last in our class and second to last in the entire grade, dragging down our entire class average. What you should be doing right now is studying and prepping, making sure you don't hold us back again, instead of wasting your cheap time out here showing off how devoted you are."

As if that wasn't enough, he continued, "Besides, your affection is completely cheap. You offer Whitney zero value. She has perfect grades, comes from a good family, is beautiful, and is incredibly successful online. She deserves so much better."

"Jonathan..." Whitney whispered, looking deeply moved.
