Her Revenge Was His Regret (Shirley and Gilbert) novel Chapter 196

Chapter 196 Unspoken Hurt

“Let’s go celebrate.”

Before Sherry could get a word out, he dragged her right out of the car.

Sherry stared at the hand holding hers. Anytime it was packed, anytime she needed a hand- this hand always showed up right when she needed it most.

Back at Lore’s place…

It was just because she’d picked the wrong outfit that day. Somebody-she never figured out who-bumped into her by accident.

Half her body went right into the fountain.

Gilbert was over chatting with everyone else. He glanced right past her. She never knew if he really didn’t see her, or if he just acted like he didn’t.

But Gilbert said he hadn’t seen her fall into the water.

She struggled for ages, half her body soaked in the water. It was late autumn, freezing cold— and she caught a cold right away.

Sherry felt so wronged; she asked Gilbert why he didn’t pull her out. If he had, she wouldn’t have gotten soaked to the bone.

She was shaking like a leaf from the cold.

“There were so many people there. Why’d you gotta be the one to fall in? You got wet, and I got important clients tomorrow.”

spot.

Sherry felt guilty right away. That’s when the Bode family was trying to lock down their After all, the nail that stuck out got hammered down. They had to solidify their place to stand their ground.

Now that she thought about it, he definitely saw her about to fall. He just didn’t think she was in any real trouble-so chatting with those people mattered more.

Otherwise, how’d he know she was the only one who fell in, out of all those folks?

Lucas didn’t hold her hand all the time now.

But he always showed up when it counted.

He held her hand and led her through the crowd to a shop.

It was a BBQ joint.

Sherry actually wanted to eat a bunch of stuff.

She didn’t have to have ribeyes-they were good, sure.

But why’d she pick that as her first wish? Truth was, she’d originally wanted BBQ too.

But when Gilbert saw the BBQ place, his face dropped instantly. “It’s fine on regular days, but this is our first wish after making it-you wanna eat BBQ?

“If people see you picking this, they’ll think you can’t even afford BBQ now that you’re with me! What will everyone say about me?”

So they ended up going to a fancy five-star place for ribeyes instead.

That’s when Gilbert first showed how huge his ego was. She knew he’d gotten pushed around a lot back then.

A lot of people talked trash about him, and he heard every word. He was sensitive-couldn’t stand anything that bruised his pride.

Now she realized it didn’t have much to do with that. Gilbert was always a spoiled kid with a massive ego. After all, he’d been spoiled before the Bode family fell off.

That pride was in his blood.

Later on, Sherry had cooked at home for so long. Gilbert and Wendy ate out every single day. Sometimes, a few people saw them and posted pics on the chat group.

Besides being sad, Sherry started craving BBQ too.

No matter how sad or lousy she felt, she still had to eat.

One day, she didn’t cook at home. She went to a BBQ joint instead.

It was just a simple meal. After eating, she felt way better.

She never thought someone would take a pic of her eating there and send it to Gilbert.

He stormed home, livid. At first, she didn’t know he was mad. She was just happy he was home for dinner.
