Her Revenge Was His Regret (Shirley and Gilbert) novel Chapter 21

Chapter 21 The Secretary’s True Role

“No wonder she said you’ve got a ton of tricks up your sleeve. Now I’m starting to believe it. Cathy enspped

Last time the visited, she’d only cared about ordering Sherry to cook. She hadn’t bothered looking around. Now one glance at the room hit her like a shock-everything was decorated in soft cream tones.

If it followed the cream aesthetic, the color scheme should be white.

You’ve lost your mind. Gilbert hates white. White furniture, white clothes, any kind of white.

That’s why the house was mostly blacks and grays.

Even if the walls were white, they’d still have paintings hung up or some decorations put up.

Sherry lay sprawled on the bed. I like it. That’s all that matters.”

Cathy clearly got agitated, mumbling Impossible’ as she stormed out

Sherry’s eyebrows furrowed. Cathy just said ‘she? Who was ‘she’ referring to?

Except for Gilbert, she wasn’t nice to anyone. She acted like she was better than everyone else.

She never listened to others, much less trusted them.

This puzzled Sherry. She really couldn’t think of anyone who could make Cathy listen.

Sherry ended up going to work at Gilbert’s company.

She had no choice.

As if taking revenge for Wendy, George had blacklisted her across the entire industry.

With two major families in Seaseat City working against her, her only job option would be cleaning. She was young and well-educated-no way she’d settle for scrubbing toilets.

Why should her life turn out like this?

What had she even done wrong?

She needed financial security. Once she divorced Gilbert, she refused to live in poverty.

Her life had already been hard enough.

Since she rarely visited the company before, most employees didn’t recognize her.

This actually worked in her favor. She quickly adapted to the work.

Chapter 21 The Secretary’s True Role

One evening after clocking out, she bumped into Wendy bringing dinner for Gilbert.

Sherry glanced at her and kept walking.

Seeing Sherry at the Bode Group made Wendy’s heart drop. “Mr. Jones, why is Sherry here? Is she trying to cling to Gilbert even at the office?”

Milton Jones was among the few who knew Sherry’s identity.

He hovered around Wendy like an eager puppy. “Wendy, even if she’s Mrs. Bode, the most she can do here is run trivial errands.”

It sounded okay. But wherever she got close to Gilbert, she’d never allow a third wheel like Sherry to show

The next day, office gossip was everywhere.

“Great news-our company’s hiring a new assistant.”

“Who? That position comes with huge pressure. Jean was incredibly capable before.”

Everyone disliked Jean.

She’d been full of herself, looking down on everyone.

Behind her back, they called her “an iron-fisted witch”. But admittedly-she’d been really good at her job.

Many wanted the position but knew they weren’t qualified. So who got it now?

Keith Collins, the company gossip, kept everyone in suspense before revealing. “It’s Ms. Mack.”

“Oh-”

Everyone except Sherry immediately understood.

Sherry seemed to connect the dots too.

Then someone walked in, acting even more arrogant than Jean. “Let me introduce myself-just in case some people don’t know who I am.”

Wendy threw a mocking look at Sherry. “I’m Wendy, the new secretary. I’ll be in your care.”

Smiles appeared all around.

Someone pulled Sherry aside and whispered, “She’s Mrs. Bode. If you want an easy time at work here in the future, you gotta curry favor with her.”

Sherry laughed coldly. So this was what the whole company believed. Yet Gilbert had sworn to her that Wendy was just like “a little sister” to him.

Were all these people blind?

Who was he trying to fool?

If they wanted to shove this dirty narrative at her, she’d throw it right back.

“Isn’t Gilbert married? I’m pretty sure his wife isn’t named Wendy.”

The woman panicked and covered Sherry’s mouth. “Don’t let her hear you say that. The last person who said something like that got blacklisted across the industry.

“In this company, Mrs. Bode is the one calling the shots. Wendy basically lives here, and once she goes into the CEO’s office, she doesn’t come out for hours.

“One colleague accidentally walked in once. He saw Wendy with flushed cheeks, buttoning her blouse. What do you think happened? Any adult can guess.”

A wave of disgust washed over Sherry.

So those two had been together for a long time-and did those things right here at work.

He’d touch other women and come home to touch her with the same hands.

Wendy deliberately walked straight toward where Sherry was standing.

Wendy had zero work experience and worse grades than Sherry. Her diploma might as well have been fake.
