Chapter 217 Irreconcilable
“What’s the point of telling me this?” Sherry said. “Do you think we can go back to how we were before?”
“Honestly, all you have to do is just play up to Gilbert a little. Not a real beg or anything-just the cute little banter between a couple. Gilbert will soften up!
“He’s a good person at heart. It’s just that his values were twisted by others. He thinks the one who gives more is the one who truly loves him…
“Even though he seems selfish…”
“He is selfish! Do you really think I’ll grovel to him? Why should I? Do you think I haven’t been hurt enough? His family messed up his values, and he doesn’t even realize it? He just likes enjoying other people’s efforts.
“He thinks he’s above everyone else-too good to apologize. But if someone else refuses to back down, it’s their fault. He never does anything wrong. I don’t owe him anything!”
If he had even an ounce of conscience, he wouldn’t have done something so cruel.
He never even reflected on his mistakes. If he wanted to blame someone, he could blame the

st hate to see a relationship end over something small-like refusing to back down.”
“Hmph. Small? Right now, you should be talking Gilbert into breaking up with me so he can marry Julia.”
Henry frowned. “I don’t think Gilbert likes Julia. You might not believe it, but it’s true.”
He doted on Wendy endlessly-all because of his love for Julia.
Sherry had seen the headlines every day: how good Gilbert was to Julia. “Do you really think he’s being strict and harsh with me… because he loves me?
“He treats them like royalty, and you call that ‘not liking’? Is he crazy? Or do you think I’m still stupid?
“This medicine-you owed it to me. Now I’m taking it back. From now on, we’re strangers if we run into each other.”
With that, Sherry grabbed her things and left.

Henry stood there, frozen.
He couldn’t put it into words, but it was the truth.
People were always hardest on the ones they held closest to their hearts. Just like Gilbert’s grandpa had been with Gilbert’s grandma.
When he died, he’d kept muttering her name.
But the Bodes were just too arrogant. They thought their lovers would never leave them and would always love them.
Maybe they only regretted it when they lay in the hospital, taking their last breath.
Henry really didn’t want to see that day come.
So he called Gilbert, telling him everything he thought might happen.
“Tell me-deep down, do you think Sherry is more important, or Julia? Put aside all those favors you owe.”
“I can’t put them aside!” Gilbert didn’t hesitate. “You know the Bodes killed all my empathy.”
“But you’re hurting the people who care about you!” Henry sounded anxious.
en she’s not doing enough. Why doesn’t anyone else think I lack empathy? What about ? Do you think I lack empathy too?”
“You’re good to me, but Sherry…”
“Exactly! Everyone else-even the people at the company-understands. Why is Sherry different? I admit I’m busy sometimes. I forget to buy her things. But if Sherry would just lower her pride and ask, wouldn’t I give them to her? I’d even transfer her a million-ten million, if she wanted!”
“But you’re a man! Shouldn’t you just give in to her?” Henry rubbed his forehead. “You can’t expect a girl to back down first! You’re the man!”
“Haven’t I given her enough chances to back down? How many times have I broken my own rules for her? Sherry just doesn’t appreciate it. And if she doesn’t, there are plenty of people
