Chapter 225 A Defiant Stand
The manager looked at Julia, starry-eyed. He was the manager of SC’s Seaseat City branch, and he knew quite a bit about Sherry. “First, I want to say-our boss is a man. Besides, I’ve never seen this woman in the company before.”
The meaning couldn’t have been clearer.
But Julia wasn’t going to let Sherry off the hook. “Oh no, I really don’t have any sense of propriety. I should have asked this privately.
“After all, Ms. Campbell knows nothing about doing business. If it were selling pots and pans, you might have some experience.”
Everyone burst out laughing at that.
“Ms. Mack, you’re so witty!”
“I’m just telling the truth,” Julia said. “But I’m a straightforward person. If I hurt Ms. Campbell’s feelings, I can apologize in advance.”
“Then apologize to me right now.”
right now.” Sherry stared at her. “I told you-if you open that filthy mouth to insult me again, the same fists that laid you out last time will do it all over again.
“People like you deserve to be beaten!”
“Sherry!” Gilbert’s voice rose sharply. “I haven’t even settled the score with you for hitting Julia last time! How dare you bring tha
up in front of everyone? Do you think you’re tough because you can punch someone? If Julia weren’t so kind, she would have had you arrested long ago!”
“Then tell her to arrest me! Let everyone know all the terrible things she’s done. I’m not afraid of being arrested. This isn’t the first time you’ve had me locked up-you think I’m
think I’m gonna be scared again? She’s already lost all her dignity-I have nothing to lose!”
She was no longer afraid of him threatening her like this.
After all, she’d already been in jail once.
“You!” Gilbert’s face turned bright red with
anger.
Sherry really can’t tell people are making fun of her? Everyone’s laughing at her, making her the joke of the group, and she still dares to talk back like this. This is so embarrassing!
Gilbert even started to wonder if the Harrisons were deliberately raising Sherry to be such a
1/3
failure.
That’s why he’d never worried that Lucas would really be interested in Sherry. He must have taken her in for some other reason.
He’d never understood Lucas’s motives. But now, it looked like he’d turned Sherry from a nobody into a joke.
“Are you suffering from some kind of delusion?
“Imagining you’re the boss, just like Julia said. I’d believe it if you sold
pots and pans.
“Don’t you think you should look at yourself? How dare you say you’re the secret boss of SC? After all, the only things you’re good at are cooking and cleaning. Can’t Julia even tell the truth? Why are you targeting her? Julia is a grateful person-why do you keep picking on her?”
By the end, his eyes were even red-whether from anger or something else. Why does such a good person like Julia always get misunderstood?
Even Wendy’s being defiant now. Julia is right-her life has been so tough. There must be tons of people jealous of her, all trying to take her down.
But she will take Splendor Group and the Bode family to the top of the world.
But Gilbert never imagined the person hurting her would be someone close to him. This wasn’t the worst part, though.
The worst part was Julia’s bitter smile-even in her drunken stupor, she’d mumbled that the thing she feared most was being humiliated by people she knew. That had always scared her the most.
