Her Revenge Was His Regret (Shirley and Gilbert) novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28 The First Legal Step

“File for divorce? Sherry, have you lost your mind?”

Tyrone had been relaxing lazily but suddenly sat up straight.

In their social circle, signing divorce papers was the usual way-taking it to court was just messy.

No, that wasn’t even the main point.

“You love Gilbert so much. How could you divorce him?”

As the biggest gossip, he knew exactly how deep Sherry’s feelings for Gilbert ran. They used to joke she’d die for him if needed.

“That was then. This is now.”

Tyrone’s restless fingers had already spread the news in the group chat.

Sherry realized he didn’t even have the sense to do it in private. But since she planned to sue for divorce, she wasn’t going to hide it.

Gilbert was the last to hear the news.

Gilbert’s face remained expressionless, but the hand holding the newspaper trembled slightly.

Scott analyzed the situation calmly. “I think this whole thing made Sherry disappointed. She’s probably really made up her mind to get a divorce.”

Gilbert put

down the paper. “Disappointed? Yeah, she has every right to be.” Then he changed his tone. “But divorce? Not necessarily. Sherry’s love for me never went away

Five years of marriage.

They’d been through so much together. How could it fall apart over something like this?

“If she needs some space, let her have it. Once she cools down, I’ll find a way to apologize and we’ll move

on.”

Scott’s eyes widened. “You… really think that will work?”

“What else? We’re not teenagers breaking up over small things-and even they often drag it out. Divorce isn’t that simple.”

Especially in their high-society circle-divorce was harder.

Was it really?

Scott scratched his head. He’d never been married, but any normal person wouldn’t put up with this. Did marriage make people super good at putting up with stuff?

Chapter 28 The First Legal Step

He made a silent wish that marriage would never come for him.

But Sherry hit obstacles anyway.

All regular real estate agencies refused to rent her an apartment once they heard her name.

And Sherry would never have dared to rent from an unlicensed one.

She was cursing Gilbert heavily.

“You need a place to stay?”

Sherry looked up-it was Melissa. “What, your family didn’t join the others in kicking me while I’m down?”

Melissa stood there, elegant as always. “What’s the point of crushing someone with no power? That would only make Gilbert pity you more.”

Sherry laughed sharply. “Pity me? Please. I don’t even know what that feels like.”

Before, he was too busy to care. Now he had time-but only to care about someone else.

Melissa raised an eyebrow. So Sherry knew nothing. Fine. It would be better for her if she split up with Gilbert. “I can arrange a place for you to stay.”

Sherry didn’t bother being polite. She agreed.

The people around Gilbert had mocked her, gossiped about her, and used her for entertainment. Just treat it as getting back some interest.

“I want to invest in that land the Bode family is eyeing.” Sherry dropped it casually.

Melissa gave her the same look Gilbert would. “Take that money and make it last until you’re old. Otherwise, you’ll lose everything and expect Gilbert to save you. With debt tying you together, you’ll never truly separate.”

Sherry forced a bitter smile. How humble she used to be-even Melissa thought that way. “Then I’ll invest somewhere else. Maybe I’ll crash and burn faster, like you said.”/

Melissa’s fingers tightened on the steering wheel. “Fine. I’ll help.”

Melissa must really love Gilbert. And she could really tough it out. “If you like him that much, why aren’t you coming after me?”

Melissa’s lips curved into a strange smile. “You’re not the one he holds dear in his heart for years. Why would I waste time on you?”

So Gilbert couldn’t let go of Wendy because she’d held ‘a dear place in his heart for years?

How many years ago was that? How young was Wendy back then?

Gilbert was older than Sherry. Didn’t that make him a creep?
