But Sherry was faster. "You're just scared people will call you ungrateful, dumping your girlfriends, wanting it all."

Both men bristled, but Julia tugged at their sleeves with a peacemaking look.

That guy's expression was almost the same as Gilbert's.

"I'm Kurt Granger." He straightened. "Successor to the Granger Group in King City. Nice to meet you all."

King City's Granger Group was not as big as Harrison Group, but still one of the four rising families.

His status wasn't ordinary at all.

Her pale fingers, tipped with soft pink, looked impossibly delicate.

Kurt actually blushed, running a hand through his hair. "There are a few Granger heirs. I'm just one of them—and not the most useful, honestly."

"If you're useless, what am I?" Julia demurred. "Half actress, half businesswoman. That makes me a total hack, doesn't it?"

Kurt's eyes lit up. "I had no idea you were so accomplished. Acting and business. My ex-girlfriend just does design, and her designs aren't great. Super tacky."

Julia ducked her head, a little shy. "I can't compare to you. I need capable people like you to show me the ropes."

The flattery landed. Kurt puffed up. "Don't worry. I've got your back."

Behind them, Juan's lip curled. "Oh, look. Now that she knows he's loaded, suddenly she's all sweet. What a suck-up."

They all heard it but ignored it.

They just treated it like Juan was jealous.

"Now I get why you're divorcing that guy," Juan muttered to Sherry, glaring at Gilbert. "I'd beat him eight times a day."

Kurt glanced at Sherry, frowned, then looked away. Conveniently, his girlfriend was gone. He slid into line beside Julia.

That left Gilbert alone.

He had planned to replace Juan. He shot Sherry a look, signaling for Juan to pair with the others behind them.

Fine, Sherry wanted to shove another woman at me? I'll show her. Let her watch me hold someone else. Let her get jealous. When she gets scared, she'll remember whose arms are warmest.
