In that moment, Sherry finally understood she was perfectly sane. If anything had ever felt wrong with her, it was only because everyone around her had lied and slandered her until she could no longer trust her own mind and body.
"Let's get out of here. A filthy place like this doesn't belong to people like us. It reeks of rot."
"Sherry, tell these men to let me go right now! You can't do this to me, or I'll make my brother divorce you!" Even now, Cathy still could not believe Sherry would truly end things with Gilbert.
She had seen how deeply Sherry once loved him.
Once, Sherry had given up everything for him—even her dignity.
But Sherry left without a single glance back.
Cathy turned to Lucas, hoping a man would take pity on a pretty face.
But he did not so much as look at her. He only paused briefly beside Eileen, his gaze cold and indifferent.
Eileen had been defiant moments before. After all, the staff here answered to her, and she held dirt on countless powerful people.
She had nothing to fear.
But Lucas' entire demeanor had shifted. A dangerous, predatory aura radiated off him, the kind that could destroy a life with a single casual remark.
His voice was calm, but deadly. "Looks like this trash has ruined plenty of lives. Don't let her die too easily. Double everything she described. Oh, and one more thing."
His eyes fell on the trembling electricians.
"Finish what you were about to do. Let Ms. Gable experience it personally. And this place is quiet—keep it that way. You understand what to do."
He meant to silence her forever.
Eileen's face turned pale. Cathy collapsed to the floor in terror. This man was a devil.
"Does Sherry know what you're really like? She's such a kind person—she'd never stay near you if she knew!"
Lucas finally flicked his gaze toward her. "You know she's kind, and you still felt entitled to bully her."
Cathy had looked down on Sherry long ago. She'd decided Sherry was useless to the Bode family.
Julia, on the other hand, brought status and respect. So Cathy had ignored every injustice Sherry suffered.
It all came down to one thing: they'd believed Sherry wasn't from a good enough family.
