Her Revenge Was His Regret (Shirley and Gilbert) novel Chapter 428

Selena turned pale with terror, her face draining of all color.

She trembled violently and collapsed to the ground, so desperate that Ivy couldn't hold her back. She didn't care about her own injuries at all.

Ivy didn't fight too hard to stop her.

She understood exactly what Lucas' words meant—he was cutting Selena loose.

"Boss, I'm sorry. I thought we should handle her the way people do back in her country. If I'd handled her the way we do things here, I promise she wouldn't have left in one piece."

Ivy thought she was doing Lucas a favor.

But she had missed the single most important point.

"Selena, you've never been the dumbest one in this group," Lucas said.

"Don't you get it yet? It wasn't about how good your plan was, or whether you could pull it off. The second you targeted Sherry, you were already done for."

Ivy's mind raced as she tried to process what he meant. "What? Does that mean... you actually like this woman? You didn't bring her here just for us to judge if she's good enough for you?

"But we all agreed before that —"

"That was your idea," Lucas cut her off.

They'd rambled on and on about it before, never bothering to check if he agreed.

Not that he spoke much anyway.

But they'd all assumed it was only natural—someone in his position couldn't end up with someone ordinary.

If she wasn't one of them, then at least be highly capable, from a powerful family, or one of a kind.

She definitely shouldn't be a regular married woman. They could never accept that. They could never respect that.

A cold, stunning woman spoke up, "Getting rid of Selena is easy enough. But Sherry will never win over this circle. You know we don't fear death. Selena won't be the last one to come after her.

"Can Sherry really survive until the end?

"If you truly love her, this is only going to end up breaking your heart."

She was extraordinarily beautiful—the kind of striking, icy beauty that drew everyone's gaze without even moving.

Sherry had always thought Selena was the most beautiful woman around, easily top-tier, even prettier than Julia.

But this woman was just as breathtaking.

Sherry had gotten on someone's bad side just by existing in his records.

Otherwise, why would a prideful woman like Julia suddenly return? She'd been sent there on purpose.

All to test if Lucas really cared about Sherry.

And even if he didn't, they still wanted to make Sherry miserable.

That was why Julia had targeted Sherry from the moment she came back.

Lucas took Sherry's hand. "I owe you for this. I told you once—no one gets to wrong you in this world. Not even me."

The others stared blankly. Clearly, none of them had known about this. Or maybe they had, and just hid it well.

"Go to jail and think long and hard about what you've done. And you know exactly how rough the prisons are here in Keiperian."

Lucas' words nearly made Selena pass out.

With a body and face like hers, she knew exactly what would happen to her there without his protection. The thought was terrifying.

She ripped the tubes from her body and bowed in front of Sherry. Whether she was truly sorry or not didn't matter. She knew once Lucas made a decision, no one could change it.
