Selena bowed there, testing just how high Sherry stood in Lucas' heart.
She also wanted Sherry to see her own place clearly.
Lucas was probably only infatuated for the moment, or using Sherry's situation to discipline a traitor.
But on the surface, Selena put on a pitiful act. "I'm so sorry, Ms. Campbell. I was blind to your status. Please don't hold it against me. I'll do anything you want if you don't send me to jail.
"I'll give you anything I have. Look at me—there are plenty like me around here. You can ask for anything, even my protection.
"The boss is powerful, but he's far too busy to guard you all the time. I can."
She spoke with utter confidence about this last offer.
She refused to believe Sherry hadn't been scared earlier; her calm was just an act.
Selena still held her pride.
Everyone in this circle did.
They all looked down on Sherry from the inside out.
She was sure Sherry would beg for her protection. If Lucas hadn't been manipulated into bed by her, Sherry would be dead by now. She might seem calm, but Selena refused to believe she wasn't terrified.
Smart people always secured a backer. Otherwise, even the people in this room would destroy her in an instant, each with their own cruel methods.
Selena had only miscalculated how much Lucas truly cared for Sherry. That was why she'd crashed so hard.
It was unbearable.
"You said I can ask for anything?"
There. Just as she'd thought. Sherry had taken the bait, exactly as predicted. People like her were easy to control.
Everything she did followed a predictable pattern, meaning they could guess every move she made.
Sherry was laid bare before them, completely see-through.
Even the icy beauty and the others relaxed, their expressions turning indifferent.
At this moment, they no longer saw Sherry as a threat.
If she'd forced Selena into prison, they might have respected her.
But now she was clearly backing down and begging for protection. Cowardice got you nowhere in their world.
