He tried calling Iris.
Her phone was off.

A jolt of panic shot through Julian. He immediately pulled up the location–sharing app on his phone.
Iris‘ dot was moving along a main road not far ahead, traveling at around 40 miles per hour.
Julian’s expression turned ice–cold. He rushed out of the hotel, jumped into his car, and took off after her.
There was no way Iris would just switch off her phone and leave like that.
She’d been taken in just a matter of minutes.
He didn’t need to guess–Arthur and Lily were behind this.
Some people just refuse to take the easy way out. They’d rather kick down the door to hell.
With one hand on the wheel, Julian called 911.
“My girlfriend’s been kidnapped,” he said, voice tight, as he pushed the accelerator harder.
It never crossed Lily or Arthur’s minds that the diamond ring on Iris‘ finger had a GPS tracker. Julian had it custom–made back when she was dealing with risky clients in her work—just in
case.
Now, it was paying off.
Night had fallen, and the highway was busy with evening traffic.
The sound of police sirens grew louder, cutting through the noise. Cruisers sped up the interstate, quickly catching up to Julian’s car.
His luxury sedan led the way, with the police convoy flowing behind him like a steel river, lights flashing in the dark.

Dizzy…
Everything spun.

Iris slowly opened her eyes. Soft light fell across the familiar, handsome face beside her.

For a second, she felt disoriented–then she realized it was Julian, and the tension drained away. She curled into his arms, holding him tightly, her breathing still unsteady.
Glancing around, she recognized the bedroom of Julian’s penthouse. She was safe in his bed.
Julian held her gently, one hand moving in slow circles on her back. “It’s okay. You’re home
now.”
Iris steadied herself and asked, “What happened? I remember sitting in the hotel lobby waiting for you. You’d just gone to the restroom. Then Arthur and Lily showed up out of nowhere and sat right next to me. Before I could even move, Arthur pressed a cloth over my face, and Lily held me down. Everything went black after that.”
Julian took her left hand and lifted it gently, letting the diamond catch the light.
Iris understood immediately, and a soft smile touched her lips. “So it’s true… It really does have tracking.”
Julian brought her fingers to his lips. “Does it feel like I’m keeping tabs on you?”
“No,” she said, threading her fingers through his. “But why don’t you wear one?”
He shifted onto his side, propping his head on his hand. A faint smile played on his mouth. “If it’s just you wearing it, it’s a nice piece of jewelry. If we both do, then it’s a set.”
“Mm.” Iris nodded.
Julian’s gaze warmed. His throat moved, and his voice dropped. “Do you want to know where I am… or do you want it to be a set because you want us to be together?”
Iris flushed and looked down without answering.
She changed the subject. “Where’s Arthur now?”
“Lily’s in custody. I pressed kidnapping charges.” Julian let out a short, humorless laugh. “Guess the old saying’s true–when trouble comes, everyone scatters.”
“Arthur got away?” Iris asked, confused.
Julian nodded. “Yeah. But not exactly like a hero.”
“What do you mean?”
“He held a knife to Lily’s throat, made the cops back off, then turned and jumped off the overpass into the river below. Vanished.”

Iris stared, speechless.
“No idea if he’s alive. But if he is, he’s on camera everywhere. He won’t get far.” Julian brushed his thumb over Iris‘ cheek. “It’s over now. The kidnapping charge will put Lily away for a long
time.”
Iris slid her arms around his neck and lifted her face to kiss him softly. “Thank you, Julian… for saving me again.”
Julian went still. His eyes turned dark and intense, fixed on her. He swallowed hard.
After a long moment, he murmured, voice rough, “I don’t want thanks in words. How about showing me instead?”
Iris bit her lip, trying to hide a shy smile, and shook her head slightly, cheeks pink.
Julian got up and lifted her into his arms.
“Wh–what are you doing?” she asked, holding onto his shoulders.
“We’re taking a shower.” A slow grin spread across his face.
“Together? No way,” she protested, embarrassment washing over her.
