Brandon watched her silently, a gentle, well–mannered smile playing on his lips. He seemed to
hesitate.
Yvette felt a nervous hope flutter in her chest. “If you don’t like the idea of me making them, you could always go to my mentor. Julian’s suits are all tailored by him—he’s really wellknown…”
“No need to trouble your mentor,” Brandon cut in gently. “I just don’t want to take up too much of your time. You must be busy.”
“I’m not busy at all—I’ve got plenty of free hours,” Yvette replied, her face lighting up. She rose happily and hurried to the cabinet, pulling out a soft measuring tape before returning to Brandon. “Come on, stand up so I can get your measurements.”
Brandon studied her smile. She didn’t seem desperate for work, but she was certainly eager.
He didn’t have a reason to refuse.
So he stood and stepped out from the sofa.
Harper paused her coloring and glanced up, curious about what the two were doing.
Yvette positioned herself in front of Brandon. Now that he was standing straight, she realized just how much taller he was. Her slender frame looked almost delicate next to his athletic build.
She measured his arms, shoulders, waist, inseam…
After the easy parts were done, a faint nervousness settled over her. Her pulse quickened, and a shy note crept into her voice. “Brandon, I need to get your chest and waist now. Could you… open your arms a bit?”
Brandon complied, raising his arms slightly.
Holding the tape in her left hand, Yvette looped it around his waist. Her right hand reached around his back to catch the other end.
Even though she wasn’t touching him, the close proximity–almost no space between them- let her sense the warmth of his body and the clean, fresh scent of his shower gel. Her heart raced in a way she hadn’t felt before.
Brandon held himself very still, his posture stiffening just a touch. He looked down at the top

Her hair, soft and long, spilled over her shoulders. A light, subtly sweet fragrance drifted up to him.
His breathing deepened slightly. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he spoke, his voice coming out lower, a little rough around the edges. “What kind of perfume are you wearing? You smell sweet… kind of unique.”
Yvette had just noted down the waist measurement when his voice above made her fingers tremble. She grew even more flustered.
“I’m not wearing any perfume. I don’t really wear it around the house.”
Brandon shifted awkwardly and cleared his throat. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to overstep.”
“It’s fine,” Yvette murmured, moving the tape up to measure his chest.
Brandon drew a slow breath, his chest rising and falling under the tape.
“Try to relax, Brandon,” Yvette said softly, noting the broad measurement.
“Yeah,” Brandon replied, his gaze fixed ahead. “So when you take on custom orders for other clients, what do you usually charge per suit?”
Yvette kept her eyes on the tape. “A few thousand, sometimes up to ten or twenty thousand. It depends on the fabric and design. For really highend pieces, it can go over a hundred thousand.”
“And your mentor?”
“Anywhere from a hundred thousand to a million, depending on the project.”
Brandon chuckled lightly. “Looks like Julian doesn’t mind spending on his wardrobe.”
Yvette finished with the tape and pulled it away. “Julian orders pieces for Iris too–really expensive ones. But he never tells her the price. I guess he doesn’t want her to think he’s being extravagant.”
“So what are you planning to charge me per suit?” Brandon asked as he settled back onto the couch.
Yvette knelt on the rug, picked up her pencil, and jotted his measurements on her sketching pad. “Nothing. Consider them a gift.”

“No, I can’t accept that,” Brandon said firmly. “Nothing’s really free. What kind of business doesn’t get paid?”
“But I’m eating your food and living under your roof,” Yvette looked up at him. “I’m not paying for that either.”
“That’s different. Let’s not mix the two.” Brandon had always kept personal and professional separate. “If you won’t take payment, then I’ll have to pass on the suits.”
Yvette let out a soft, resigned laugh. “Alright, alright. Once they’re finished, you can pay me whatever you think is fair. How’s that?”
Just then, the sound of a car pulling into the driveway came from outside.
Harper hopped up from the floor, bouncing excitedly. “Mommy and Daddy are home!”
A moment later, Julian walked in holding Iris‘ hand. They changed their shoes and stepped into the living room.
Brandon and Yvette both turned to look.
Thrilled, Harper ran toward them with her arms wide open. “Mommy! Daddy!”
