She had no time to think. She let him guide her into the bedroom, going along with him without putting up much of a fight.

They barely made it to the bed before their clothes were tossed aside.

As her back hit the mattress, Zoe pulled away from his kiss, her voice small and bashful. “We haven’t showered yet.”

Daniel simply swept her up into his arms and carried her straight to the bathroom.

Steam blurred every surface in the bathroom. The rushing water did nothing to dim the heated tension simmering between them.

He poured every ounce of his attention into her, determined to make her crave every second with him.

It went on continuously, from the bathroom to the bedroom, late into the night and well into the next morning.

His gentle touches finally let Zoe experience how beautiful and intimate this moment could truly be.

Morning came.

The alarm blared at seven thirty.

Daniel woke up instantly. He reached over and silenced Zoe’s phone without hesitation.

He muted the device, set it back on the nightstand, then pulled her snug against his chest and drifted back to sleep.

Zoe was utterly exhausted from their restless night together.

When she finally stirred awake, the curtains were drawn wide, and bright sunlight spilled over the balcony. She grabbed her phone and froze in shock.

It was twelve thirty!

Irritability bubbled up inside her. He’d turned off her alarm and muted her phone.

She scrambled out of bed, threw on her clothes, and rushed to the bathroom to get ready.

Daniel walked out of the kitchen with lunch in hand. He watched Zoe bolt out of the bedroom, grabbing her bag in a hurry to leave.

He set the food down, strode over to her, and pressed a hand against the door to block her path. “Eat lunch before you go.”

“I’m late.” Zoe was visibly flustered, shoving her phone in his face. “This is only my second day. Why did you turn off my alarm?”

“I run this company. What do you have to worry about?” Daniel furrowed his brows.

“I’ll make a bad impression on everyone.”

“You don’t need to impress anyone. Anyone who complains about you being late can find another job.”

Zoe stared at him, lost for words.

Daniel gently steered her back to the dining table. “Try the food I made.”

“You’ll ruin your reputation as the boss by acting like this.” Zoe set down her belongings, gazing at him with concern.

Daniel slipped off his apron and laid it on the table before sitting across from her. “I don’t care what anyone else thinks. The only opinion that matters is yours.”

A soft flutter tugged at Zoe’s heart, melting it completely.

A warm, unfamiliar surge of happiness washed over her.

“We’ll head back to the office together after we eat.” Daniel served her a bowl of soup.

Zoe glanced at the table. Three dishes paired with a bowl of soup–simple, delicious, and clearly homemade with care.

People who grew up with very little always knew how to cook for themselves.

She took the bowl from him with both hands. “Thank you.”

There was no point panicking anymore. She was already late.

She had never relied on a single person her entire life, never once gotten to act spoiled out of

someone’s affection.
