It’s pathetic.

Since everyone already thought she was vicious, then fine. She might as well be.

Yvette made up her mind. Her face went cold. Without a single word, she turned and headed upstairs.
“Get back here right now! What kind of attitude is that?” Bertha snapped furiously.
“Yvette…” Madeline called out after her.
Yvette never looked back. She walked straight into her bedroom, slammed the door shut, and locked it.
Madeline knocked gently on the door, her tone soft and coaxing. “Sweetie, be good. Just come out and apologize to Judith. Don’t make this harder for me.”
Yvette tossed her sketches onto the floor, dropped onto her bed, and pulled the covers over her head.
She cried silently under the blanket, her whole body trembling.
Her grandparents and parents loved her, yet every time she clashed with Judith, they would always take Judith’s side without hesitation.
Brandon had always been nice to her too, but when it came to a business marriage, he still chose Judith over her.
Was she really that unworthy?
There was no way she was marrying that spoiled playboy Javier.
Eventually, she cried until she was exhausted.
Yvette got up and splashed cold water on her face.
She pulled herself together and redrew her ruined artwork.
Ralph knocked on her door once to tell her it was dinner time. She ignored him.
As night began to fall, she put on subtle makeup. She slipped into a white floral dress and plain white sneakers, then left the house.

Most staff had already gone home. After waiting a long while, she finally saw Brandon step out of the elevator.
He wore the black suit she’d personally tailored for him half a year ago. The suit fit him perfectly, making him look tall, sharp and refined.
He walked toward her with calm, steady steps.
Yvette took a deep breath and worked up the courage to walk over.
It had been months since they’d met, and an awkward distance had grown between them.
“Brandon…” Yvette stopped in front of him.
Brandon froze for a second, clearly surprised. Soon after, a gentle smile tugged at his lips. “Yvette? What brings you here?”
“I came to see you.” Yvette nervously pinched the hem of her dress and swallowed hard.
“To see me?” Brandon slipped his car key into his pocket and nodded toward the elevator. “Want to head up to my office?”
“No. I’m not here for business.”
“Then what is it you need?”
“Brandon…” Her heart ached and pounded relentlessly. Her breathing turned shaky. She gathered all her courage and pleaded softly. “Will you marry me?”
Brandon went still, caught off guard and stunned.
Yvette tilted her head up, staring into his beautiful eyes. Tears glistened in her gaze, and her voice cracked. “I know you have feelings for Zoe, but she’s happy with her boyfriend. If you’re only going to settle for someone in this marriage… please choose me. I’m begging you, Brandon.”
Brandon breathed out slowly, his brows furrowing. “What happened? Why are you saying this all of a sudden?”

“Judith edited fake intimate photos of me and Javier and showed them to my grandparents.” A tear slid down her cheek. “Now both families are arranging our marriage. I don’t want to marry him.”
“What about the person you like?” Brandon kept his tone soft. “Why not go to him?”
Yvette’s sadness overwhelmed her even more.
She hung her head, her fingers trembling. “He loves someone else. He doesn’t love me.”
Brandon pulled out a tissue and handed it to her, his voice warm and soothing. “Hey, don’t cry. My dad’s been pushing me into marriage too. To me, marrying anyone is the same. If you’re okay with this, then I am. I’m sorry you’re going through this.”
“I don’t feel wronged at all.” Yvette took the tissue he handed her and wiped away her tears. Now that he’d agreed, she cried even harder. “Thank you, Brandon. Thank you so much.”
Thank you for saving me from Judith and Javier.
