Yvette’s father had met her mother three years after his divorce. They’d gotten married, and soon after, Yvette was born.
Neither her mother nor she had done anything wrong, yet to Judith, they would always be the bad guys.
Growing up, Judith had never let her breathe, constantly picking on her, pushing her around, and putting her down at every turn.
“I hope you’re happy.” Yvette curled her hands into tight fists, forcing the hollow words out.
Judith smirked coldly and brushed her bangs aside. “I hope you’re happy too. After all, you’re about to get married.”
Panic flared sharply in Yvette’s chest. There was something dark and cunning in Judith’s eyes. “What are you talking about?”
“I told our grandparents you’ve been hooking up with Javier for half a year.” Judith’s grin turned arrogant. “I even edited explicit photos of the two of you and sent them over. They bought every lie. They’re already negotiating your marriage with the Hughley family.”
A sharp, burning pain stabbed through Yvette’s chest. Her throat tightened, and hot tears pricked at her eyes.
Her grandparents had always spoiled Judith rotten. Judith was a natural at playing innocent and sweet, so the family trusted every word she said—fake, edited photos only made it easier.
Elderly people had no clue about photo tampering.
One glance at those suggestive pictures, and they’d believed it without a shred of doubt.
Javier Hughley was a notorious spoiled playboy. He came from money, yet he cycled through girlfriends nonstop.
Being married off to him was nothing short of a living nightmare.
Judith was downright cruel.
“I won’t marry him.” Yvette held back her tears, every word stiff and shaky.
Judith laughed in blatant triumph. “Good luck with that. Born into a wealthy family, you don’t get a choice in who you marry. Blame your mom. She chased my dad for wealth and status.

“My mom married Dad when he was single.” Yvette’s hands trembled violently. She bit her lip hard, fighting back desperate sobs.
Out of nowhere, Judith grabbed a fistful of her hair. Her eyes turned vicious, her tone dripping with venom. “If your mom hadn’t existed, my parents would’ve gotten back together. It’s always been the two of you-”
“Ah!” A sharp sting shot across her scalp. She instantly lifted her hands to shield her hair.
Heavy footsteps hurried toward them.
Judith suddenly let go. She dropped clumsily to the floor, messed up her own hair, and scratched raw, bloody marks into her arms.
By the time Yvette processed the scheme, her grandparents had walked in, escorted by her
parents.
Judith lay trembling on the floor, sobbing like a broken mess.
As the daughter of a famous director and a professionally trained actress, she pulled off the helpless victim act flawlessly.
Yvette smoothed her messy hair, helpless and on the verge of tears.
There were no security cameras in the house. The family avoided installing them to keep Judith’s private life from leaking due to her acting career.
She had no proof. No one would believe her.
Before Yvette could utter a single word, her grandma marched over and slapped her hard across the cheek.
The sharp crack echoed loudly through the room.
Yvette’s cheek burned intensely. Her ears rang nonstop. She cupped her stinging face, tears swirling in her eyes.
This kind of false accusation had happened to her over and over again throughout her childhood.
“Mom.” Ralph pulled Yvette behind him, his voice tight with distress. “You can’t hit her before figuring out the truth.”

Bertha Jensen helped Judith up gently, glaring furiously at the scratch marks on her arms. “Look at these wounds! Has everyone gone blind?”
Even Ralph felt a flicker of sympathy at the sight of Judith’s injuries.
Bertha turned sharply toward Yvette’s mother, Madeline Jensen. “And you? How do you raise your child? She’s only growing more vicious with age.”
“I’m so sorry. I’ll discipline her properly.” Madeline looked utterly ashamed. She carefully touched Judith’s injured arm. “Judith, I apologize for Yvette.”
Tears welled in Judith’s eyes as she pouted weakly. “It’s okay. I don’t blame her. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t be engaged to Brandon when Yvette has feelings for him.”
