Brandon’s expression was deadly serious, and his tone was cold. Anyone could tell he was furious.
It finally dawned on the family why he looked so grim.
Everyone had blindly suspected Yvette’s pastries had made Judith sick, and Brandon clearly hated every second of it.
“What benefit would I get from poisoning myself?” Judith snapped in a trembling, hurt voice, fresh tears spilling down her cheeks.
Bertha and Chris felt immense sympathy for her.
Bertha hurried to comfort her. “Judith, that’s not what Brandon meant. Don’t cry. Rest-”
Brandon cut her off without hesitation.
“No, that’s exactly what I mean. There’s a high chance you poisoned yourself.”
He spoke bluntly, staring straight at Judith.
“Framing Yvette would make her sad, wronged, and scolded by the family. It would also shift everyone’s attention and care onto you. You’d gain plenty from it.”
The Jensens stared at Brandon in shock.
Judith froze, panic flickering in her eyes. She held her composure and stared back at him without a word.
Yvette was stunned. Her heart swelled with overwhelming gratitude.
She could barely believe how straightforward and firm Brandon had been for her.
He hadn’t cared about sparing anyone’s feelings. Without solid proof, he’d chosen to believe her and openly doubted Judith.
Was this him being protective?
No, he was protecting his wife.
Yvette’s eyes watered as she gazed at his handsome face.

Her heart ached with warm emotion.
:
Even her own father, who had always doted on her, had never believed in her so unconditionally, never defended her without a single reason.
Judith burned with rage.
“You’re going too far! What proof do you have to suspect me like this?”
“You suspected my wife without any proof as well,” Brandon shot back sharply.
The cold, heavy atmosphere in the ward turned suffocating in an instant.

Tired of the pointless drama, Brandon turned around and took Yvette’s cold hand in his.
“Yvette has work tomorrow. We’re heading home.”
Madeline had never seen Brandon lose his temper. She hesitated, words dying on her tongue. “But Judith is still-”
“Her blood work shows nothing serious. She’ll be fine after a night of rest.” Brandon’s tone left no room for argument.
“It’s just mild food poisoning. The whole family lost sleep over it. She sure loves causing trouble.”
He made no effort to spare the elders‘ feelings, nor did he hide his disdain for Judith. Holding Yvette’s hand tightly, he walked out of the ward.
The second they stepped outside, Yvette’s tears broke free.
His warm palm wrapped around hers for the very first time, feeling safe, steady, and comforting.
Noticing her crying, Brandon said nothing. He simply draped an arm over her shoulders and pulled her gently into his chest.
His large hand stroked her slender back softly.
Yvette buried her face in his firm, warm chest, breathing in his faint cedar scent.
His embrace was like a safe harbor, shielding her from every harsh storm.
On impulse, she wrapped her arms around his waist.

It was the first time she’d clung to him so intimately, holding him openly and crying freely against his chest.
Once Yvette calmed down, they skipped returning to Jensen Villa and headed straight back to their home.
It was past four in the morning by the time they got home.
Brandon told her to wash her face and get some rest.
Yvette obeyed and walked into her room. Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, she stared at her puffy, bloodshot eyes.
The memory of him defending her in front of her family made her chest feel tight and sore.
After she finished washing up and stepped out of the bathroom, someone knocked on her door.
Yvette walked over and opened it.
Brandon stood outside, holding a cup of warm milk out to her.
“Feeling better? Drink this. It’ll help you sleep.”
“Thank you.” Yvette took the milk with both hands.
“Don’t overthink it.” Brandon’s voice was incredibly soft.
“Judith’s tricks aren’t clever. Your family’s just used to taking her side.”
Yvette’s nose stung sharply. “Why do you… believe in me so much?”
A faint smile tugged at Brandon’s lips.
“You’re my wife. Who else am I supposed to trust?”
That simple sentence completely shattered Yvette’s emotional walls.
She set the milk down on the cabinet beside the wall, and then threw herself into Brandon’s arms, squeezing his waist tightly as her tears soaked through his shirt.
