Chapter 453 Unspoken Resentment
“Dad, what’s wrong with Yvette lately?”
Cayden frowned and let out a cold huff. “She’s your wife. Why are you asking me?”
“She seems upset about something.”

“She looks perfectly fine to me.” Cayden gestured toward the fresh flowers on the table. “Look at these beautiful flowers she just picked.”
“She’s been avoiding me.”
Cayden shook his head and sighed, sounding disappointed in his son.
“On your days off, go hang out with your friends, play some games, or just read the news like I do. Stop clinging to your wife. Girls need their own space. They wanna chat with their friends and have their own life too.”
Brandon had nothing to say in reply.
Cayden doted on Iris and Yvette, yet his attitude toward Brandon always depended on his mood.
When Cayden was in a good mood, Brandon was his good boy.
When he wasn’t, he acted annoyed by everything Brandon did.
“Fine. I’ll leave her alone.” Brandon pulled out his phone and got busy with work.
Evening came.
Iris and Julian got back home.
The second they sat down in the living room, Cayden asked anxiously, “How’s your best friend?”
Iris let out a long breath of relief. “The surgery went perfectly. The doctor said her recovery outlook is excellent. We don’t have to worry anymore.”
“Thank goodness,” Cayden murmured. “She’s such a lovely young girl with her whole life ahead of her.”
Iris turned to Brandon, her eyes glistening with tears. “Thank you.”

“What for?” Brandon smiled lightly.

“The surgery was scheduled at the very last minute. Thank you for staying up all night drafting the surgical plan. You even looked up countless international cases just to ease Daniel’s worries.” Iris quickly wiped her tears.
Julian immediately pulled out some tissues and gently dried her tears, whispering softly to comfort her. “Don’t cry. Zoe’s safe now.”
Brandon also spoke in a calm, gentle tone. “Zoe’s like your sister, which makes her basically family to me. I knew you’d be heartbroken if something happened to her. Losing a little sleep was nothing.”
Iris squeezed the tissue in her hand and asked nervously, “Do you think Yvette will misunderstand?”
“Misunderstand what?” Brandon looked confused.
“That you still have feelings for Zoe.”
Brandon smiled casually. “Yvette’s understanding. She won’t overthink it. She even told me to go visit Zoe this noon.”
Iris still felt uneasy. “You men are all oblivious. I really think she’s holding something back.”
“Then we’ll just ask her.” Cayden called out toward the hallway. “Yvette! Are you busy? Come out here for a second.”
“Dad, don’t!” Iris tried to stop him in panic.
She was speechless. Having the whole family sit there and openly question Yvette like that was way too harsh.
No one in her right mind would tell the truth in that awkward situation.
Just then, Yvette walked out of her study. She politely greeted everyone in the living room and stepped forward.
“Cayden, you called for me?”
Iris cringed awkwardly, wishing she could stop her father.
All three men in this family were hopelessly straightforward.
Cayden spoke sincerely. “Yvette, Brandon stayed up late making surgical plans and researching

medical documents for Zoe. He only helped her as a friend. You didn’t misunderstand anything, right?”
Iris covered her face and sighed quietly.
Yvette nervously glanced at the three intimidating men staring straight at her.
Her chest burned with anxiety. She quickly shook her head.
“No, not at all. I know Brandon and Zoe are just regular friends.”
Cayden turned to Iris with a proud smile. “See? You worried over nothing.”
Iris was completely lost for words.
Brandon reached out, took Yvette’s hand, and pulled her to sit beside him.
“What were you doing cooped up in the study for so long?” He lowered his head and whispered
near her ear.
Yvette stared at his long, pretty fingers gently rubbing the back of her hand.
“I was working on design drafts.” Her voice sounded low and dispirited.
“Working even on your day off.” Brandon held her right hand and gently massaged her fingers.
Yvette stayed quiet and didn’t reply.
After dinner, Yvette went back to her study to continue drawing.
Work was just an excuse. All she wanted was some quiet time alone.
