“I know what to do,” Yvette said flatly, her tone empty.

Riley still sounded stressed. “You’re clearly not okay. I’ll take a few days off next month and fly back to stay with you.”
“Don’t bother. I’m fine. Just focus on your studies.” Yvette forced a frail smile and tried to act composed. “I’m genuinely okay.”
“You sure?”
“I’m sure. I won’t fall apart without Brandon.”
Riley kept talking, doing her best to comfort her.
They hung up only after Yvette’s ride–share pulled up outside the villa gates.
Yvette walked into the villa and shot Brandon a text, “I’m home from work. Don’t come pick me up today.”
It wasn’t long before Brandon replied, “You made it home safe?”
“Yep.”
Brandon sent a cute pat–and–hug emoji with a short message, “Be good. I’ll be home around
seven.”
Normally, these sweet texts would brighten Yvette’s whole day.
But right now, all she felt was sadness and quiet anxiety.
She didn’t feel like she deserved his kindness anymore.
In the living room, the household maid walked out of the laundry room, carrying neatly folded clothes.
“Good afternoon, Mrs. Whitmore.”
“Good afternoon.” Yvette glanced at the crisply ironed garments–they were Brandon’s. “Give them to me. I’ll take them upstairs.”
The maid handed over the clothes and spoke softly. “Mr. Whitmore had me make you a restorative tonic. It’s still warm in the kitchen. Would you like it now?”

A restorative tonic?
Yvette froze, a sharp twinge stabbing her chest.
Is it really just for my health?
Or is it meant to help me conceive?

“I’ll have it later,” Yvette replied blankly and headed upstairs with the clothes in her arms.
She hung her bag up in the walk–in closet and opened Brandon’s wardrobe to put his things
away.
As she sorted through his ties and socks, her eyes landed on a tiny jewelry box tucked in the back of his drawer.
We’ve been married for months. Why is he still keeping this box?
Is he gonna hold onto that memory forever?
Yvette finished putting his clothes away and left the drawer ajar.
She’d never dared open that box before. She’d once convinced herself she didn’t care, that she could tolerate him loving someone else.
But now, just like Riley had warned her, she’d lost herself completely over him.
She was constantly drained, jealous, and tangled in messy emotions.
He treated her so well, yet she could never believe it was real love.
She braced herself, picked up the jewelry box, and slowly flipped the lid open.
Inside lay a delicate diamond bracelet from a luxury brand. It wasn’t overly expensive, but it looked refined.
Brandon had spoiled her with countless high–end jewels, yet this simple bracelet hurt her the
most.
A dull ache spread across her chest. She snapped the box shut and set it back in place.
She closed the wardrobe door.
Yvette skipped the tonic. She sat alone on a wicker chair out on the balcony, staring at the clouds as the sun slowly sank.
