Chapter 248 Who Died?

The ceremony began. The bride, veiled in white, walked down the aisle on her father’s arm.

No one could see the tension on her oval face beneath the lace.

Last night…

“We hear she’s pregnant. The fetus can’t stay.”

“Then make the first cut there.”

Last night, a hand clamped over her mouth so she couldn’t make a sound. She watched, wide-eyed, as the

man felt around for the belly through the sack and drove the knife in twice, hard.

Blood soaked through the burlap. A low, masculine grunt came from inside.

It should have been her in that sack. But a young man had taken her place.

What happened to him?

Her mind had gone blank then and remained so even now.

The pews were full. Her steps felt leaden.

The image of crimson blood spilling from the sack, flooding her vision, wouldn’t fade.

She hadn’t realized she was so hated.

Was she unworthy of love?

Even if she was, didn’t she deserve to live?

Lawrence led her to Elian, who stood waiting in his bespoke tuxedo. Their conversation sounded distant.

“Take good care of her,” Lawrence said with a smile.

“Always,” Elian replied, his deep eyes piercing the veil, seeing the moisture gathered on her face.

Lawrence placed her hand in Elian’s waiting palm. His fingers closed around hers, warm and familiar.

Lawrence stepped back. At that moment, a large screen near the entrance lit up with their first wedding poster-a captured moment of Elian looking at her, holling her hand.

Anya, waiting in her gown, heard the ceremonial music swell from within the cathedral. A strange tremor ran through her. She gathered her skirts and strode toward the entrance.

Liana should be dead on an operating table by now. He must getting impatient. The guests are restless.

She hurried, eager to appear before him, to say “I do,” exchange rings, and become the true Mrs. Locke.

But…

Xander, Nathan, and Evan stood on the groom’s side. Jett was at the very end, frantically calling Anya’s phone. No answer.

He was terrified she’d arrive and see this, heartbroken.
