Chapter 245 Lawrence Stays the Night
Tomorrow, her daughter would be the one standing at the altar, and she, Helena, would be the future mother-in-law of the Locke Group’s CEO.
Helena followed Lawrence outside to see Liana.
When Lawrence saw her reclining in the rocking chair, ool and distant, he suddenly thought of her mother. His voice softened without thinking as he called her, “Liana?”
She started, then slowly opened her eyes, nuh Annu
She’d expected him to come out, but not this quickly. And he was smiling at her, warmly.
Liana sat up stiffly and rose to her feet. “It’s better if you call me Ms. Keane, or Mrs. Locke, Mr. Forrest.”
“A bit of a temper is good. Keeps you from being taken advantage of in your new family,” Lawrence said kindly.
“You’re always telling Anya to be patient, to tolerate this and that. How come it’s a ‘good temper’ with her?” Helena muttered beside him.
She had come along for one reason-to curry favor and secure Lawrence’s leniency and protection when things went wrong later.
They’d been married for years. She’d never been particularly kind, but for the sake of her family’s clout, he’d put up with it. This time, he’d put up with it too.
Liana looked so much like him that it made Helena’s blood boil. She glared at her.
Lawrence turned a mild gaze on his wife. Though he smiled, the warning in his eyes was unmistakable.
Helena fell silent, playing her part-the unappreciated, long-suffering stepmother.
“I’ve prepared a wedding gift for you. It’s not much, but it’s a father’s wish. Helena and I came to congratulate you on your wedding. You and Elian have nally made it official,” Lawrence said. “The second reason… I only just learned that your grandparents and Helena pressured you about the liver transplant for your grandpa. She’s here to apologize. And I apologize on behalf of your grandparents as well. There is no justification for asking this of you.”
“I-”
“What? You want Liana to donate her liver to your old man? What were you thinking, Lawrence? Has Liana ever eaten a single meal at the Forrest table, or drunk a glass of water from your home?” Roy cut in, his voice sharp with outrage.
Seeing Roy defend her so fiercely, Liana felt a sudden lump in her throat. He was so protective.
Yeah. That’s the “Nelson” way, through and through..
“Mr. Nelson, you’re right. That’s precisely why we’re here to apologize,” Lawrence replied smoothly, unfazed by the accusation.
