But the physical pain paled in comparison to the suffocating ache in her chest. The betrayal left her shivering to her core.
She stared in absolute disbelief at the teenager she had stayed up all night to watch over.
The same boy she had poured years of effort into caring for.
Leroy simply glared back at her with unapologetic disgust, pointing sharply at the door. "Just sign the divorce papers already. Without the Sherwood family, you're absolutely nothing! Who needs your fake sympathy anyway?"
"Leroy," Clive barked, his voice dropping an octave. "Shut up. Where are your manners?"
He then looked at Whitley. "This is what happens when you spoil him."
Whitley let out a dry, incredulous laugh. "Your entire family is rotten to the core. It doesn't need my teaching."
It was beyond saving.
She turned on her heel and walked out.
Clive's jaw tightened. "Watch Leroy. I'm going to pay the bill."
Yelena nodded obediently.
As soon as Clive was out of earshot, Leroy scoffed. His expression was pure malice. "Who does she think she is? Just because my brother gave her an allowance all these years, she thinks she suddenly has wings?"
"Without our family, she is nothing. I'm going to make sure Clive takes every cent back and leaves her with nothing. Let's see how arrogant she is then. Next time she sees me, she won't even be fit to tie my shoes."
A fake heiress. No background, no degree, absolutely nothing to her name. Where did she get the nerve?
Yelena sighed softly. "Leroy, stop it. I know you hate how she controlled you all these years, but she did it for your own good. You'll understand when you're older."
"Come on, Yelena," Leroy rolled his eyes. "You're way too nice. You actually believe she's pure and innocent? She stole my brother from you, and you don't even care. Do you really think someone that malicious has a good heart?"
Cole hesitated for a second before adding quietly, "She looked... completely dead inside, sir. Her eyes were ice cold."
Clive didn't even flinch. A faint, mocking smirk touched the corner of his mouth.
Dead inside?
She hadn't even signed the divorce papers. Not a single stroke of a pen. How far could this tantrum really go?
It was just a woman acting out. Give her a few days of the cold shoulder, and she would fall right back into line.
He dismissed it entirely.
He had absolutely no idea that her signed divorce petition was already sitting quietly on his legal team's desk, just waiting for a court date.
