His Last Command Came Back to Kill Him novel Chapter 128

Yelena sat perfectly comfortably in the passenger seat, her makeup glowing and her demeanor totally natural, as if that spot had been made specifically for her.

Seeing Whitley standing outside, she didn't attempt to move. Instead, she tilted her head, flashing a flawlessly gentle smile. Her voice was soft, sounding like a polite request, but every single word was a blatant territorial claim.

"Whitley," she said softly, but clearly enough to be heard. "I get a little car sick, and I'm really not used to sitting in the back. Do you mind if I take the front seat?"

Before Whitley could even respond, Yelena turned her soft gaze to Clive in the driver's seat, her tone shifting into something sweet and slightly pitiful.

"Clive said I've been working too hard lately and needed to get out and breathe, so he invited me along to relax. Bonnie knows too; she already agreed to let me tag along."

She paused as if suddenly realizing something, bringing a hand to her mouth in mock apology. Her eyes widened innocently at Whitley. "This won't... cause an issue for your marriage, right?"

It was a masterclass in manipulation. She made sure to point out that Clive had invited her, used the grandmother as a shield, and finished it off with a casual comment about not ruining their marriage.

She scrubbed her own hands totally clean, playing the part of the sweet, well-meaning guest. If Whitley made a fuss now, Whitley would look petty and insanely jealous.

Standing by the car, watching Yelena's effortless performance, Whitley felt a wave of bitter amusement.

Other people might not know, but she knew exactly how this played out.

Years ago, the arranged marriage was originally meant for Yelena and Clive.

But back then, Yelena was obsessed with studying abroad and chasing prestige. She looked down on the idea of being trapped in a wealthy family as a trophy wife. She fought the arrangement tooth and nail, and through a twist of fate, Whitley ended up marrying into the Sherwood family instead.

And now?

The title Yelena hadn't wanted, the marriage she had thrown away, the position of Mrs. Sherwood that Whitley had bled and broken herself to maintain...

With that, she didn't spare them another glance. She casually closed the passenger door, walked around to the back, opened the door, and slid in.

It didn't matter. She and Clive were getting a divorce anyway.

Whoever he wanted to pamper, whoever he wanted sitting next to him, whoever he wanted to parade around with—it had absolutely nothing to do with her.

The car pulled away smoothly. Clive gripped the steering wheel, his eyes on the road, not saying a single word.

He didn't offer a shred of explanation to Whitley, and he clearly didn't think there was anything wrong with Yelena taking the front seat. To him, it was perfectly normal.

For the entire drive, the front of the car was incredibly lively.

Yelena leaned sideways, chatting enthusiastically with Clive about her days studying abroad.
