His Last Command Came Back to Kill Him novel Chapter 134

Whitley stared at her phone for a long moment before finally swiping to answer.

"Whitley, dear, have you been terribly busy lately?" The gentle, caring voice of an elder came through the speaker.

Whitley was caught off guard. She hadn't expected it to be Bonnie calling from Clive's phone.

Her voice softened. "I've been okay. Not too busy."

"You used to come back to the Manor all the time to eat with me, but I haven't seen you in ages. Are you and Clive fighting? During the spring outing, you two barely looked at each other."

Whitley didn't know what to say.

The matriarch was still desperately hoping they could make their marriage work, still trying to play matchmaker. But whatever had existed between her and Clive was completely, irreparably shattered. There was no going back.

Sensing her silence, the old woman didn't push. She simply said, "Come have dinner with me after work tonight. I've booked a private room at our usual spot."

After clocking out, Whitley quickly freshened up and drove to the restaurant.

Bonnie was already waiting in the private dining room. The moment Whitley walked in, she beamed and waved her over. "Whitley, come here. Sit next to me."

Whitley did as she was told. Bonnie slid the menu across the table. "Take a look. Order whatever you like."

Whitley took the menu and lowered her eyes to scan it.

She was wearing a simple white blouse, the sleeves casually rolled up to her elbows, her long hair tied back to reveal her slender neck. Her face was bare and elegant, but it was painfully obvious that she had lost a significant amount of weight. Her jawline looked far too sharp.

Bonnie stared at her for a moment, her brow furrowing with concern. "Why are you so thin again? Have you not been eating properly?"

Whitley offered a faint smile. "It's just the summer heat. It ruins my appetite."

"You never lost this much weight in previous summers." Bonnie sighed, her gaze turning probing. "Is that boy Clive neglecting you? Is he giving you a hard time?"

Whitley closed the menu and handed it to the waiter, gently shaking her head. "No. It has nothing to do with him."

It was never a matter of 'good' or 'bad' times anymore.

From the very beginning, Clive had been exactly the same: cold, distant, and completely blind to her existence.

In the past, she had been stubbornly blind herself, clinging desperately to a pathetic shred of hope. But now that her heart was entirely dead to him, she actually felt liberated.

Whitley sneered internally.

He probably thought she was playing hard to get, deliberately starving herself just to make him feel guilty.

Clive picked up the tablet to glance at the digital menu, then looked at her. "I thought you loved Honey-Glazed King Prawns. Why didn't you order them?"

In front of Bonnie, he was putting on quite the show of being an attentive partner.

Whitley found it utterly laughable.

She was severely allergic to shrimp.

Bonnie's face instantly darkened. "Whitley has been deathly allergic to shrimp since she was a little girl. You didn't know that?"

"You've been married for all these years. What kind of husband are you?"

Clive froze. He looked at Whitley, genuine confusion mingling with an infuriating sense of entitlement. "You never told me."

Whitley's lips twitched into a cold, hollow smile.
