The figure on horseback tore across the track like lightning, their movements fluid and seamless. From a distance, their face was obscured, but the sheer commanding presence was undeniable.
Clive Sherwood's gaze locked onto the rider, his eyes darkening a fraction as a barely perceptible smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.
Yelena Nash, always fiercely competitive, practically vibrated with eagerness at the sight. "They're actually quite good. Let me go change. I want to pick a horse and give them a run for their money."
Clive glanced at her. "Careful. You're pregnant."
"I'm not that delicate," Yelena brushed him off lightly. "Not like Whitley, acting like the world is ending over a tiny cold."
At that moment, the rider pulled back on the reins, bringing the horse to a halt. Dismounting with practiced grace, Whitley Nash pulled off her riding helmet, shaking out her long hair. She looked radiant, her posture effortless and dazzling.
Murmurs of admiration rippled through the onlookers.
She had barely adjusted her riding jacket when she looked up—and locked eyes with Clive, Yelena, and their entourage standing just yards away.
Speak of the devil.
Leroy Sherwood immediately spotted Tessa Zimmerman standing nearby. His lip curled into a sneer of utter contempt. As classmates, he had always looked down on her modest background.
"Yelena," Leroy bragged, lifting his chin haughtily, "when you get out there, show them how it's really done. Let some people see that this equestrian club isn't for just anyone."
Yelena smiled gracefully and stepped closer to Clive, tilting her head. "Clive, could you check my hat? I think it's a bit crooked."
Clive lowered his gaze, reaching out with endless patience to adjust it. His movements were natural, intimate.
It was a gentle tenderness Whitley had never received from him.
Standing together, the three of them looked exactly like a picture-perfect family—harmonious and deeply in love.
Tessa Zimmerman gripped the hem of Whitley's jacket, her knuckles white. Her small face was tense as she glared fiercely at Clive and Yelena, clearly outraged on Whitley's behalf.
Leroy stomped over to Tessa, crossing his arms with a mocking scoff. "You guys don't even know how to ride. What are you doing here? Just here to make fools of yourselves?"
Tessa wanted no part of this. She tugged on Whitley's hand. "Let's go. Don't pay attention to them."
But Yelena suddenly called out, her eyes flashing with a provocative gleam. "Tessa just claimed you were a great rider. Since we're all here, why don't we race?"
Whitley's tone was flat, her expression entirely detached. "Not interested."
She turned on her heel to leave.
Just then, Yelena, eager to take control of Nightfire, grabbed the reins too aggressively, yanking them hard.
Nightfire, a notoriously fierce and untamed champion, was instantly triggered. The stallion reared up, hooves thrashing the air, and let out a terrifying shriek.
All color drained from Yelena's face. Panicking, she scrambled sideways, blindly grabbing onto Whitley's arm. The sudden movement shoved them tightly together.
Spooked and furious, the massive stallion pivoted and charged directly at them.
