His Last Command Came Back to Kill Him novel Chapter 44

"Are we all here? Hi everyone, I'm Yelena! I'm officially joining PurePath Biologics today. I look forward to working with all of you."

Yelena flashed a sugary-sweet smile at the room, her voice soft and melodious. "I brought some pastries for everyone. Please, don't be shy, help yourselves."

The staff quickly murmured their thanks, the atmosphere warm and welcoming.

Yelena weaved through the crowd and walked straight up to Whitley. She picked up a delicate macaron and held it out, her voice dropping to a gentle murmur. "Whitley, you should try one too. Clive specifically picked these out for me. He said they're delicious, so I thought I'd bring them in to share with everyone."

*Clive specifically picked them out.*

It was a classic Clive move. He was calculated and thorough. Yelena was joining a new company, so naturally, he made sure she bought her way into everyone's good graces on day one. He might not be here in person, but he was meticulously paving the road for her.

And Yelena? She was just here to rub it in Whitley's face.

Whitley looked at Yelena, a faint, unbothered smile curling the corners of her lips. There wasn't a trace of anger in her eyes; they were entirely placid.

"Is that right?" Whitley replied smoothly, keeping her volume low enough that only the two of them could hear. "Perfect timing, then. You should definitely enjoy the treats my husband bought."

*My husband.*

Two simple words, effortlessly delivered, but carrying lethal impact. It didn't matter how toxic her relationship with Clive was.

As long as the divorce wasn't finalized, Yelena was nothing but the illegitimate other woman.

Yelena's smile instantly froze. The color drained from her face, turning her sweet, glowing complexion totally ashen.

"I was thinking I should get you a welcome gift since you're joining the team," Whitley continued, her smile widening. "But since my husband already footed the bill to help you out, let's just consider this a welcome gift from the both of us. It was very thoughtful of him. Saves me the headache of shopping."

Yelena was completely speechless.

They were on the verge of divorce, yet Whitley still had the nerve to act so shamelessly! Clive had clearly bought these to support *her*, yet Whitley was twisting it to sound like they were a united front gifting charity.

Every pair of eyes darted between Whitley and Yelena. The air was thick with shock, curiosity, and a heavy dose of gossip.

Pregnant? Yelena was pregnant? Whose baby was it? No one had heard anything about the recently returned 'true daughter' of the Nash family having a husband or even a boyfriend.

Chisholm frowned slightly.

Whitley crossed her arms, beating him to the punch. "Sure. I don't mind sharing my office, as long as you don't mind the company."

It was *her* office. Why on earth would she give it up?

Yelena paused, lowering her eyelashes in a picture of vulnerability. "But I really need a quiet environment."

She looked up at Whitley with pleading eyes. "Whitley, once the baby is born, I'll give the office back to you. Is that okay?"
