Clive slowly raised his eyes, granting the man a fleeting, indifferent glance. His tone was distant and perfectly cool as he gave a soft "Hmm" in acknowledgment.
Even that minimal response was enough to make Mr. Weaver feel immensely flattered. His smile grew even wider, and he immediately launched into a frantic self-introduction, desperate to establish a connection.
Seeing this, Yelena's eyes instantly lit up.
She had just been worrying about her lack of high-end lab equipment channels. She never expected that this Mr. Weaver was exactly the supplier she needed—and that he recognized Clive.
She put down her fork, flashing a charming smile. "You're Mr. Weaver? What a wonderful coincidence. Our team is actually in desperate need of a batch of premium lab equipment, and we've been struggling to find the right partner. I wonder if there might be an opportunity for us to collaborate?"
Mr. Weaver was instantly ecstatic.
He knew exactly who Clive Sherwood was. The man's power and influence were staggering. If he could build a relationship with Yelena, he would effectively be securing a connection with Clive. From there, his business would only skyrocket.
He quickly turned to Yelena, beaming. "Ms. Nash, you flatter me! It would be an absolute honor to work with you!"
Whitley watched the sudden betrayal unfold, her brow pulling into a tight frown. Her tone grew sharp. "Mr. Weaver, we had practically finalized our deal. We had this meeting booked specifically for this purpose. You are well aware of standard business practices. First come, first served."
To secure this deal, she had endured countless rounds of negotiations and vetted numerous suppliers before settling on Horizon Lab Systems. Their quality and pricing were the perfect fit for her needs. This equipment was the critical lifeline for her new project, and she absolutely could not let Yelena snatch it away.
Mr. Weaver's smile froze, a deeply conflicted expression crossing his face.
On one hand was Whitley, who had booked him first—a matter of basic business integrity.
On the other hand was Yelena, backed by the terrifying power of Clive Sherwood, a man he couldn't afford to cross.
He didn't want to offend either side, but he was forced to choose.
Rubbing his hands together, he looked awkwardly at Whitley, then glanced nervously at Clive. "I'm terribly sorry, but... well, we haven't actually signed the final contract yet, so..."
His implication couldn't have been clearer.
No signed contract meant no real obligation.
In the face of absolute power, integrity meant nothing.
Whitley's fingers curled into tight fists as a chilling cold seeped into her bones.
She watched Mr. Weaver squirm, then looked at Yelena's triumphant smirk. Finally, her gaze settled on Clive.
She wanted to see exactly what the man who had once promised to protect her for the rest of her life was going to do.
She slowly stood up, brushing off her blazer.
"If that's how it is, the deal is off."
Her voice was pure ice. "Mr. Weaver, I wish you the best with your new partners."
With that, she turned to Chisholm, her tone flat. "Let's go."
Just as she turned to leave, Yelena called out from behind her.
"Whitley, wait."
Yelena stood up. "PurePath Biologics is a small operation, and it must be exhausting trying to keep it afloat all by yourself. Why don't we merge the two companies?"
"That way, you'd have the equipment, the resources, and the project. Plus, we're family. A merger would be best for you."
It sounded like a generous offer, but it was a thinly veiled attempt to trample her final source of independence and swallow her whole.
Before Whitley could even respond, Xander let out a loud, derisive laugh. "Why are you being so polite to her? She's just a pathetic undergrad. You're offering her charity, and she's too stupid to take it."
