We have run through several possible scenarios but in all honesty, I’m not paying as much attention as I know I should be, and I know I won’t be able to until Beth is here with me, as if she can read my mind, she steps in the room right at that very moment.

“Hey, is everything ok?” She’s not a dull girl, she knows straight away something is up and I can see the worry gracing her beautiful face and I hate it.

“Beth take a seat sweetheart.” Calvin’s tone is always gentle towards Beth no matter what the situation is, he’s grown very fond of her in the short time she’s been here, then again so has Jack and Ashley.

She looks up at me and to my relief, she takes the seat next to me. Calvin holds out his hand to Brooke as she moves towards him, sitting in his lap, Jack and Ashley repeat the motion. I know all the guys are nervous and having their mate so close is the best thing to calm them down, of course, it’s different for me and Beth but having her close still helps me more than I could ever imagine.

“Ok Beth, I know it’s only been 3 weeks since you arrived here and I didn’t want to have to involve you in this yet, but you may be the only person who can help me.” She gives him a gentle smile and nods for him to continue.

He dives in telling her about the conversation that I had with Elder Thomas the day she arrived here and the suspicions I had regarding that, then ends with his conversation he had this morning with Elder Richards.

I watch her closely and she genuinely seems confused, I’m starting to think she doesn’t know anything but then I notice her sudden change, her body stiffens and she looks like she’s been smacked in the face with a hammer.

“Marcus!” She whispers out.

“Marcus?” Brooke repeats Beth with a questioning look. “As in Carly’s brother Marcus?

I’m still staring at Beth unable to take my eyes off her when I notice her eyes are slowly glazing over with tears.

“Yes him! I can’t believe I forgot about that, about him. Why did I forget about what he has done?” She looks up going between Brooke and Calvin, she looks scared and so sad and it’s breaking my f*****g heart!

“It’s ok sweetheart, you’ve done nothing wrong. Now would you mind telling us what you know involving Marcus? Or just anything you can remember at all?” Calvin is his usual gentle; Patient self and I send him a great full smile.

“Ok…so after Bella and I had been in the safe room overnight I started to realize that no one was coming to get us so I got my emergency backpack and we left. When we got outside…it was a blood bath! Dead wolves and Body parts were just scattered everywhere.

I wanted to turn away and run but I needed to know, I needed to see them. First I found Harley and Josh, they were laying together and both of their throats were torn out.” She’s slowly losing her hold on her tears and I’m slowly losing my restraint!

“It’s ok little wolf, take your time!” She gives me a small smile before carrying on.

“After I found them, I kissed them both on the head and kept moving. Next, I found mom, our beautiful mom had her heart torn out Brooke!” Reliving finding her mom’s dead body is the last straw for her as her sobs slowly start to wreck her body.

Brooke has curled herself into Calvin while still trying to fight her tears, I know if Beth wasn’t here, she wouldn’t still be holding them back. Beth looks up at me looking completely broken and I can’t take it anymore.

I look to Calvin, he gives me the nod and I reach over sliding my hands under her arms and gently bring her into my lap, she instantly cuddles into me her fists balling up around my shirt and staying put against my chest.

She inhales my scent and I feel her calm down, she doesn’t realize what’s happening but I do, she’s calming down from the contact between us even though she doesn’t know we are mates yet, her body does and I’m so grateful I can help her.

She takes a few minutes to calm herself down more before continuing on with her story and telling us everything else that happened including Mrs Thompson telling her it was Marcus who controlled the attack. Calvin goes on to tell her more about both of the phone calls that have happened and she curls herself into me even more as she tries to make sense of what’s happening.

“So, he killed his own pack members to become Alpha, including his very own blood family but he didn’t kill me or Bella even though he knew where we’d be, why?” My girl asks the question that I know we’re all thinking and I honestly don’t think any of us know how to even try and answer that question.

“I don’t know what’s going on but I intend on finding out!” Calvin is pissed and I’m right there with him!

“I’m going to call that bastard and see if I can get anything out of him, I need everyone to remain quiet or you are welcome to leave if you would rather do that!”. No one leaves but we all quiet down as Calvin dials his number on speakerphone for us all to hear.

“Alpha Marcus Thompson speaking!” He sounds so confident and for some reason I already hate him.
