His Plump Mate (Book 1: The 'His' Series) novel Chapter 557

Sinclair POV

I’m in the woods, letting Mali run. We are feeling the air whip through our fur. I’m smiling. I feel carefree. I feel…content.

I see a pond. It looks serene. Honeysuckle vines are climbing up trees, and bushes are everywhere, releasing a sweet smell. The pond looks like glass, and I can see the clouds reflected in the sky above it. It looks almost too perfect.

I hear rustling behind one of the trees. Mali takes a defensive stance.

‘What is it, Mali?’

‘I don’t know. Something doesn’t feel right. This whole place doesn’t feel right.’

The rustling continues, and in the distance, a man appears. He looks pained…hurt. I stay still. He comes towards me. But then, there is another person with him. A woman. She has a black ring around her neck.

What the hell is this? They don’t seem to notice me. I don’t want them to notice me either.

‘Mali, let’s go.’

But Mali doesn’t move. She tilts her head, looking at the man and woman in the distance. She is very interested in the scene unfolding.

I tell her to turn back, but again I am met with silence. I sighed and decided that, as long as we keep quiet, we won’t be discovered.

We observe the man and woman. They talk and talk, and Mali continues observing. Then the man falls to his knees and looks up at her. She points to me and vanishes. The man in the distance looks at me, stands up, then walks away. Mali cries and then finally walks back.

I jolt awake.

What the hell was that? My heart is beating rapidly, and my hands are shaking. What a bizarre dream. It wasn’t a nightmare exactly, but it left me feeling unsettled.

‘Mali, what was that?’

She’s quiet for a second but then answers. ‘I don’t know. I felt really sad, though. He was clearly hurting, and that woman just left.’

‘Why did she point at us? We were hidden. We were quiet.’

‘I don’t know, Clair. I just felt more alone than I have ever felt. It was an uncomfortable kind of alone, too.’

I don’t understand it. But it’s just a weird dream. No sense in lingering on it. ‘It’s seven in the morning. Time to get up and continue searching for Ronan.’

Mali still feels contemplative but agrees.

I strip down and look at myself in the mirror. I sighed. I’m not like Thalia or Kaia. My body doesn’t have those kinds of curves. I look plain. My brown hair is straight with no kind of volume. Iris was even prettier. Her hair was wavy. I remember seeing it in her pictures.

My body is at least toned, and my skin is smooth. I don’t have any features that would make anyone desperate or fall over themselves to be with me. I looked down and sighed again. My mind is the only thing that makes me stand out.

It isn’t what someone sees when they meet a person, though, is it? I have never seen a man look at a woman walking by and say, ‘Look at the mind on that one. I don’t even know why I’m thinking about this now. Maybe it was that dream and the man taking one look at me, and turning his back as he walked away.

“Find that bastard. Tell me if you need my help. Whatever resources you need, Aiden and Isaiah said it’s yours. Ronan is going to pay for coming after this family.”

“Say no more. I’m closing in on that son of a bitch,” I said. I feel the anger rising inside of me. That poor girl was given a raw deal. It doesn’t excuse what she did, but she also had her hands tied from a fucking curse to fix it.

“Really?”

“Yeah, the key is a combination of Julian’s information and Amber’s. I'm seeing a cross pattern at different times. I think he has three main locations. I’m trying to establish a pattern of how he moves from location to location. I need that predictive software. I’ll send you the information. If you’re serious about resources, that will help me. It’s better than me doing it by hand.”

“Consider it done. Send it to me, and I will tell Aiden and Isaiah,” she replied. “I need to go get ready for the funeral.”

“Okay. You will have it in your messages, with the details and cost, in ten minutes. Please convey my condolences to everyone.”

“I will. As soon as you know how to get that bastard, let us know.”

“Will do.”

We hang up, and my heart is hurting for everyone. I can’t imagine the pain Adrian went through when the bond broke. He’s likely in pain in more ways than one. It hardens my position to find Ronan.

‘When the bond breaks from death, rather than rejection, the pain can be excruciating,’ Mali said. ‘Then the heartbreak, regret, and any other feeling will delay the healing from that bond. His wolf could be weak right now, too.’

‘Then we need to find Ronan and help Adrian avenge Amber.’
