“Calm down, sis. I went to the ocean. Aiden actually found me. I stayed with him last night and I had breakfast with him and his family this morning.” I said hugging her.

“You stayed with him last night?” She raised her eyebrow at me and there was a faint smirk on her lips.

“Not like that. He saw my face and then brought me to his hotel room to take care of my bruises. Afterwards I slept there. I only slept. Nothing else.” I became very serious and continued, “We have to leave here this week, Mia. Papa wants me to marry Armando this weekend. I am not doing it, but he plans to use you as leverage against me. He knows you are my weakness and I will not let him exploit you.”

Her eyes widened, “Exploit me? We are going to leave two weeks early? How?”

“I need to talk to ma. I’m going to her room right now. Then I will arrange everything. Take only what you must. We have to leave a lot behind, okay?” I said.

“I will. We will go. I wish ma would come too.” She said sadly.

“Me too. She refuses to leave with us though. Let me go talk to her.” I stood and walked out of the room. I went to my mother’s room. She doesn’t share a room with my dad anymore. I don’t know why, but she stopped around the time I turned eighteen.

I knocked on her door, and I heard her say, “Come in.”

I cracked the door, “Ma?”

“Thalia!” She jumped up and gave me a hug. “I was so worried something happened to you.”

“I’m fine, ma. Listen, did you know that papa is pushing me to marry Armando this coming weekend?” I asked.

“What?!” She raised her voice slightly. Her eyes look furious. “He promised me he wouldn’t push you. He keeps lying to me.

“He promised me in front of my mate that he wouldn’t force me to marry Armando and would let Mia and I choose our own happiness, too. Ma, he only ever lies. I have to get out of here sooner than I thought. Can we call Tio, please?” I asked.

“Your father said he was going to discuss business with Don Arnaldo after dinner. We will call him after he leaves, okay?”

I hugged my mom, “Thank you, ma.”

I went to my room and started working through my escape plan. I also thought of a backup plan. I’m going to ask my mom to fake a trip with Mia and me so we can go to my warehouse. I need supplies.

As I leave my mom’s room, I run into Rodrigo. Great. The men in this house are nothing but assholes.

“Watch it, Thalia. I swear I will be glad when you are gone.” Rodrigo said.

“Your wish will come true soon enough.”

“Yeah, and I can’t wait. You will be miserable with Armando and I’m glad. You have always been a disgrace to this family.”

“You think anything you say is going to affect me? This is why you will never be as great as you could be, Rodrigo. You hurl insults without knowing how to really affect anyone. Grow up, kid brother. Become a man, then you can lead.” I said, walking

away.

“Yeah, just like you lead men twice your age into your bed. You have always been shameless. Now you can be a whore whenever you want with your husband. I’m honestly surprised he wants you as badly as he does.” He spat.

“And who wants you? Last I heard, there isn’t a woman in this town that wants anything to do with you.”
