Amber POV
“I told you to get me information, and you have yet to deliver, Amber,” he said.
“I know, but you knew this was the long game from the beginning. Besides, Adrian’s my mate. It’s harder to do things without him finding out.”
“So break it off with him and get me what I need.”
“If I do that, then I lose access afforded by my position. This is hard enough to navigate.”
“I’m going to send another pack of rogues. Let them kill him. Then you won’t have to worry about it.”
I laughed. “You think you can take my mate? You can’t. The entire bloodline of Blackstone is a force.”
“You forget, I have everything I need to destroy your reputation in the pack and with your own mate. If you prove worthless to me after all this time, I will broadcast it for everyone to see, and then I will end your life, and no one will ever remember Amber Willis.”
“I promise, I will get you something,” I said, my hands trembling.
“You have until this weekend. Find me something to take down the entire pack. With this one out of the way, it will be easier to get rid of the rest.”
He hung up.
Adrian POV
I’m looking at Aric and Sinclair. I had an irrational thought about her. Amber is my mate, but I feel drawn to Sinclair. When I saw Aric getting close to her, I felt jealous. It’s irrational because I love Amber. We are going through a rough patch right now, and it seems like we might be rounding the corner.
She hasn’t let me touch her in months. I want a family with her. I want to have the happiness I see Isaiah has with Kaia, or what Reid and Aiden have with Navy and Thalia. As a man, it’s hard not to think it’s my fault. She doesn’t seem happy, and I don’t know what to do to make her happy.
I don’t know where I went wrong. I don’t know what I did. Every time I talk to her about it, she starts gagging. Like the idea of whatever I did disgusted her to the point where she was physically unable to talk about it. I'm frustrated. I’ve never been unfaithful. I’ve never thought about another woman until now.
I won’t cross lines. My Dad raised me better than that, and I wouldn’t disgrace him that way either. It still doesn’t fill the loneliness I feel these days. Who knew you could have a mate and still feel alone?
