Aiden POV

I’m listening to Thalia’s thoughts, and I find it interesting that she didn’t immediately kill the rogue. As I continue listening, I realize that the rogue was given a shit hand for a lame ass record. That doesn’t seem right.

Suddenly, offing that guy seems like a waste, and I start understanding Thalia’s reasoning. I think she is thinking of Ironclaw for him. I love how she can look at a person and see whether or not they would be a good fit somewhere.

In the distance, I hear several vehicles coming. If I had to guess, it’s Luca. He must be desperate to get Mia back. I know I would be, if it were me and I was trying to get Thalia back.

‘Guapo, I’m pretty badass. Nyx and I would tear anyone apart.’

‘I know, Mojito. Call it the possessive Alpha in me. I understand Luca.’

The cars barely stopped, and Luca was already jumping out and rushing to Mia. He grabbed her and inhaled her scent. She wrapped her arms around him and started calming him down.

“I’m fine, mi vida. I’m right here,” she repeated.

Once Luca was calm, he looked up and saw Declan. He snarled and lunged. Thalia was quicker than me, though.

“Luca, he was planning to get Mia to safety at the next stop. He wasn’t going to harm her. He has been dealt a shit hand,” Thalia said.

He snarled, “I don’t care! He took her in the first place!”

I got in his face, “Luca, you are family, but do NOT think you can talk to my mate that way, or I will show you why I am the most feared Alpha in this region.”

Luca clenched his jaw and looked away, “He took my mate with the other rogues.”

Thalia stepped around me, “And those assholes are dead. Mia is my sister; do you think I would leave anyone alive that meant to do her harm, Luca? Do you not understand me by now?”

Mia reached out to Luca, “Mi vida, Thalia and Aiden saved me. Declan was going to help me escape. He didn’t want any part of a kidnapping.”

Declan then cautiously stepped forward, “It’s true, Alpha. I thought we were there to snag research. I was pulled into this kidnapping.”

Mia looked at Declan, “What research?”

“Heath wanted us to grab research from your labs. He heard you had been working on isolating the properties of gemstones. But they didn’t find anything, from what I understand. So Heath said to grab you and take you to the human city.”

I growled, “Is this how he has been getting his inventions?”

“I’m not sure. We need to get going though. We also need to destroy all the evidence here,” Thalia said.

Luca still has a scowl on his face, but he looks at me. “We will take care of this. Thank you both for saving my mate.”

Thalia walked up to Luca. “She is my sister. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for her. She doesn’t want Declan dying either. Perhaps you should talk to her to understand why.”

“Heath beat her ruthlessly. Her face is still covered in bruises,” Damaro said.

I want to feel bad for Tina, but I don’t. Her ambition and lies landed her where she is today. Now she is packless and no longer has a Luna title.

“Did they reject each other?” Thalia asked.

“Yes, but not before she grabbed the patents from the safe. She said Golden Frost didn’t invent anything. They stole all the ideas from other packs. She has the proof, too. We agreed to take her and her father with us, but she will not become a member of Obscure Maw. Her father said he would find another pack,” Damaro explained.

“Is there a neighboring pack she can stay at, instead of going to Obscure Maw?” Thalia asked.

I understand why she is asking. She doesn’t want Tina learning anything about her family and doesn’t want her learning how maws operate.

“No. We are not letting them stay in our pack house, though. They will be under guard in a cottage until her father finds another pack for them to move to,” Valeno called out.

Thalia exhaled, and I did too.

“What’s a maw?” Declan asked from the back.

“Thalia’s wolf,” I said, without giving anything else away.
