His plump mate (Rebel and Austin) by Buchanan novel Chapter 566

Third Person POV

“Adrian, you can’t keep pretending this doesn’t hurt you,” I said.

Adrian turned his face away. “Of course it hurts, Aunt Nancy. I never thought I would be a widow this young. I never thought my mate would betray me or cheat on me. I never thought I would have this pathetic an end to a relationship that never flourished.”

I looked at my nephew-in-law, and my heart clenched. He has suffered, and I’m ashamed and saddened that it was because of my niece. I wish they had reached out to me before. I would have tried to help them through all of this.

“I know you are hurting, but you are not crying. You are not mourning,” I said after having spent an entire month here on the coast with him.

“I assure you, Aunt Nancy, I have cried,” Adrian said.

“Adrian, I lost my mate young, too. It was unfair. It took me a long time to understand that crying from the sting of her death and crying from the heart are two different things.”

“What’s the difference?” He asked. “Because it feels the same to me.”

“You are crying because you are sad that she is gone. You cry from the betrayal. Crying from your heart gives you a sense of peace. It allows you to move on. It allows you to empty your feelings that are stuck in your heart. It gives you the ability to continue living.”

“I don’t know how to do that,” Adrian confessed.

I sat beside him on the sand. “Adrian, you start by letting yourself acknowledge that you loved her with your whole heart, and there was nothing wrong with that. Don’t resent having loved Amber. That love was real and honest on your part.”

“But not on Amber’s.”

“I don’t think that’s true, Adrian. I think she made a horrible mistake that cost her her life. From what you told me, she kept apologizing and was remorseful. She didn’t trade information about you or your family either. She suffered in silence because of her love for you. She just couldn’t ask you for help. I think if she could have told you and explained everything, she would have,” I said.

Adrian continues sitting on the sand. Continues staring at the silver urn. He hasn’t been able to bring himself to scatter her ashes. He says it makes everything too real, too final. I’m retired and old, so I have nowhere I need to be. But he does. He has a pack to help run.

“Have you decided to go to Blackstone or stay at Blue Moon?” I asked, trying to help him focus on something else for a couple of minutes.

He sighed. “Yeah. I called Reid. I told him I needed to go back to Blackstone. He was supportive. Jules and Nala will take over as the Betas, and then one of the lead warriors will become the Gamma.”
