Adrian POV
Fuck. That was incredible. Sinclair’s innocence is completely disarming. Being inside her, and feeling that heat, and how tight she was, I’m done.
Now that we have completed the bond, it threw cold water on me when it snapped into place. I see everything. She made light of her foster homes. She was neglected, abused, and thrown away.
I saw the young girl, sleeping on a couch, and washing her clothes by hand. I feel anger coming over me. I was a bastard who didn’t make it any better. What did she do? She gave me space and didn’t demand anything.
Why would she? She is used to being abandoned. When our wolves retracted their canines, I pulled out of her gently. I feel how sore she is. I really tried going easy on her. This rut was driving me insane.
‘Yeah, but now we know why everyone loves her. She didn’t have any growing up. Do better!’ Thor said.
‘I’m seeing that, Thor. It was never that I didn’t want her.’
I rolled off of her and pulled her to me. She stiffened. “I’m sorry,” I said. “I never meant for you to feel like I was rejecting you, Sinclair.”
Her shoulders eased. “It’s okay.”
“No. It’s not,” I said. “When you said it wasn’t the first time you had been hungry before, I never knew it was because of those foster people. Will you tell me about it?”
She buried her face in my chest and sighed. “The first foster home was the only time I was treated well. My foster mom couldn’t have kids. She wanted to adopt me. But, she miraculously became pregnant and decided she didn’t want to foster anymore and returned me,” she started.
Returned her? She isn’t some kind of defective product. Why the fuck would a grown adult do that to a child? Build her hopes up, only to reject her.
I kept quiet, so she could continue explaining. “The second foster home, they didn’t hit me, but their punishments were harsh. I was blamed for breaking a family heirloom. Even though it was their own kid who did it. They didn’t believe me and made me kneel outside in bad weather. I ended up catching pneumonia, and child protective services came and took me to the hospital. When I was better, I was told that my foster family did not want me back. I was thrown back into the orphanage until I got to the third foster home.”
