Adrian POV
The next morning, we haul ass out of that place. I stayed with Sinclair the entire night. I didn’t let her out of my sight. We made a quick stop at the house she bought. It was small. She bought it, though. She was going to make it a home. Either way, she grabbed her laptop bag that was in a hidden floorboard under the bed and then grabbed some water bottles and bags of chips.
I chuckled at her. We could buy that on the road, but she said that she wanted them now. Aiden started laughing and welcoming me to the world of cravings. He said they get worse, and I remember Kaia’s weird cravings with Titan. He really did come out looking like a full-grown man. Hefty chunk of a nephew. He’s adorable though.
Now, we are halfway home. We keep having to stop because of Sinclair’s bladder. Our pups are using it like a bed. We would probably be one hour from home if not for all the bathroom breaks.
Aiden is taking it in stride, while I worry with every stop. Her life is in danger according to Thalia’s conversation with the Moon Goddess, and I am constantly surveilling the area when we stop.
I can’t get the picture of Sinclair’s house out of my mind. Her furniture was destroyed. Glass was scattered in pieces in the kitchen. Holes in the walls from fighting. She endured it by herself, while pregnant. She is one of four of the strongest women I know.
Now she is going to help Thalia tip the scales to win the war. We are less than a year away from the war. Plus, she still needs to complete the blood pact. Which reminds me, “Aiden, do you think Thalia can pull together the warriors quickly, and we get the blood pact as soon as we get there? I don’t want it going past today.”
Aiden pulls out his phone and calls Thalia. After his typical flirting and bantering with Thalia, he asks if she can get the blood pact ceremony together in the next couple of hours, and she said she would get right on it.
“Done,” Aiden said.
“Thanks. I am anxious to get back,” I said, waiting for Sinclair to come back from the bathroom.
Aiden clapped my shoulder. “It’s going to be fine, Adrian. We are in the final stretch. Once we are back, she will have the protection of the pack.”
I see Sinclair come out, and she looks pale. I am immediately concerned. “Babe, what’s wrong?”
“I think we are being followed,” she said. “I can’t fight yet. I’m not completely healed.”
I looked at her incredulously. “Is your mate and alpha chopped liver, little mate?”
“Yeah, I’m almost offended,” Aiden said with a smirk.
“That’s not what I mean, guys. I mean, I can’t help.”
“Who do you think is following us?”
“Candy.”
My mood darkens immediately, and I start scanning the area, as does Aiden. I don’t see her, but that doesn’t mean Sinclair is wrong. She is usually sharp about these things.
“Where do you think she is?”
“I swear I thought I saw her at the other end of the rest stop, Adrian,” she said, and I saw the slight tremor in her hand.
“Aiden, let’s go,” I said. I sat in the back with Sinclair and put her on my lap, pushing calm through our bond.
I’ve never seen her like this. She is scared. Sinclair doesn’t get scared.
‘Tell me what else you are feeling, little mate.’
‘I feel weak right now, Adrian. I feel vulnerable. I’m not recovered yet. Mali is protecting our pups. My body feels weak though.’
‘We are almost home. We are doing the blood pact as soon as we get there, okay?’
