Austin and I make sure that Renata is in her room and give her some time to get settled. Before I leave, I tell her I need to start working with the omegas to get the briskets started for tomorrow’s ceremony.
“Nope! I’m coming! I want to see the smokers you built and what you are going to do with them.” She says.
As we make our way to the kitchen, several pack members say hello to both Renata and me. It seems like everyone really loves Austin’s mom and it isn’t really hard to see why. I bet she was a great Luna.
“It seems like you are well loved.” I smile.
“You are as well. The smiles to you are just as genuine. Tell me, has the adjustment been hard for you?” She questions.
I think on it for a second, “Honestly, it is a lot easier when I am working with everyone to relate to them. If it is just to stop and say hi, then I find it more difficult. I don’t do small talk well with people. Not because I don’t care, but because I don’t know how.”
Renata looks at me considerately. “Practice makes perfect my dear, but I understand what you mean. One day, soon I hope, I will tell you all about my story. Maybe that will help inspire you.”
I smile warmly at my newfound mother and walk into the kitchen. I greet the Omegas and after we wash our hands, I start showing them how to trim the briskets, letting them know to use the fat for renderings, as we will need that later. Then I show them how to season, wrap and tie everything together.
All the while, Renata is observing me. I see a ghost of a smile on her face. I wonder idly what that was about, but I move on and tell the omegas to let the briskets sit in the refrigerators when we get the smokers up and running. Once again, I show them how to start the smokers and have them break up in groups to try and get them going. I try to praise them when they get it and encourage them when they struggle, which is more than I ever got in my life.
Now that everything is up and running, I start working with the omegas to get everything goi briskets on the smokers. I see warriors hooting and hollering, clearly, they are excited. Thei infectious and I start laughing with the omegas.

Before Austin could respond, the omegas started chiming in too.
