The police were still investigating the specifics of the case.
When Annika saw the news, the phrase “you reap what you sow” crossed her mind, and she quietly logged out of her account.
Lana was the most overjoyed to have Monroe back. She wanted the baby to sleep with her, but Annika refused. Knowing the trauma Annika had endured from Monroe’s two disappearances, Lana didn’t press the issue. She simply gave Monroe a bath and left Annika’s room.
Around ten o'clock, the doorbell of the Sargent Villa rang. Lana answered it and found Conrad standing there. She tried to block his way, but she was a step too late. Conrad had already strode inside, carrying Monroe’s luggage bag. Resigned, Lana took it from him.
Conrad glanced around the empty living room before his eyes drifted upstairs. “Is Monroe asleep?” he asked Lana.
“He just had a bath, so he’s probably still awake,” Lana answered truthfully. “Annika said he slept a lot during the day and will likely be up until midnight.”
Lana knew that delivering luggage was a task Conrad could have easily delegated to Nolan. His showing up in person meant he wanted to see his son.
She didn’t stop him as he headed upstairs, instead turning to put the luggage away.
Conrad was familiar with the rooms in the Sargent Villa, especially Annika’s bedroom.
The door was unlocked. He pushed it open gently and stepped inside. His gaze immediately fell upon the plush bed where Annika lay, dressed in a silk nightgown that beautifully traced her curves. In the dim light, the sight of her bare calves and pale skin was intoxicating, and Conrad’s eyes clouded over with a familiar haze.
