Chapter 14-3
Archie did the same thing and then they left and Dove left right after them. I had a feeling that she was going to be telling a lot of people off today and possibly even quitting. Her contract is up for renewal with the company and with the way that she’s being treated right now, she’s done with them.
After they all left, I finished feeding Veer and left him in his highchair for a minute. As I was getting ready
to head out to check the biscuits, Zuri walked into the kitchen. “Hey, we need more biscuits if you have any
more. We’re almost out again,” she said. “Ok, I have a little bit more. Once those are gone though, that’s it
for the day. Will you help me take them out?” I asked her. “Sure” she said.
I pulled the rest out of the oven and told her which ones were which. We took them out and restocked the
last of the biscuits in the warmer. Once they were all out there, I walked back into the kitchen and
switched out the dishes in the dishwasher. When that was done, all I had left to wash was the skillets and
pans. So I ran the sink full of hot soapy water and got them all washed up. Then I scrubbed down my
griddle on my stove as well as cleaned the rest of the stove. I also whipped down all of my counters and
island.
When I was done, I picked Veer up and walked out front to see how everything was going. The display
case needed to be filled up in some places, so when the girls had a lull in customers, I had them refill it.
While they did that, I stood behind the register so that I could ring anyone that came in up.
As I was standing there looking around, I saw that Leandro and his parents and brothers were still in here. They just kept looking over at me and Veer. Veer was in my arms holding his sippy and just a babbling along at me. He only had socks on with his pants and shirt, and when I tickled his toes, he started giggling.
When the girls were done restocking, I told them that I was going to be in my office if they needed me. I had paperwork to do and money to count out that had to go to the bank. I always took it in around noon when Tatum and Colton take their lunch breaks. They always go to the bank at the same time as well. And
since we use the same one, they pick me up so that they can make sure that no one tries to rob me. I love
them both so much for this. Because it scares me that someone would try to again.
When I first moved down here, I was going to the bank alone after I first opened. A couple of young boys
tried to rob me, but thankfully a big scary looking guy with the local MC saw and stopped them. He said
that his name was Red and from now on when I went to the bank, he was here to escort me if I needed
him to. Even now, if the guys can’t go with me, he will come and drive my SUV and take me. He is a really
nice guy, he and his husband are.
I look towards the table that Leandro and his family are at one last time and decide that I do need to at least let them in Veers‘ life. I don’t want to be with Leandro anymore, but that doesn’t mean that I want to
keep my son from having a father. He deserves to have his father, grandparents, uncles and apparently
