He was a wolf in sheep's clothing!
...
Yvan carried a naked Winifred to the bathroom, washed her gently, then wrapped her in a towel and carried her back to the bedroom.
Winifred hadn't wanted him to, but she was too exhausted to protest and just let him.
Just then, Yvan's phone rang. He glanced at the screen, picked it up, and stepped out to answer.
Lying in bed, drowsy, Winifred could faintly hear Yvan's hushed voice from the balcony, unable to make out what he was saying.
A few moments later, Yvan returned and lay down beside her.
Winifred rolled over and hugged him, her eyes still closed. "Who were you talking to? Your voice was so quiet. Are you hiding something from me?"
Yvan caressed her face. "Winifred, can you get two days off next Monday? I want to take you to Oakwood City."
"What for?" Winifred asked, her eyes still shut.
Yvan hesitated for a moment. "My contacts found the person who has information about your father. He said he'll only talk if you go and ask him in person."
Yvan had exhausted nearly all his connections and resources to get this lead.
Winifred's drowsy eyelids shot open. She grabbed his hand tightly. "Really?"
"I'm sure of it," Yvan said, stroking her reassuringly. "The man is the head of the Criminal Investigation Department. If he says he has information about your dad, it must be true."
Why would someone from Nimbus City know about her father, and not someone from Oakwood City? Winifred wondered.
"I should be able to. I'll ask someone to switch shifts with me," Winifred said, clenching her fists.
"Winifred, don't be nervous." Yvan sensed her anxiety and tried to soothe her. "Getting news about your father is a good thing. I have a feeling he might be involved in some kind of confidential work. It's not that he doesn't love you; he probably just had his reasons for not being able to see you."
