Howl of Destiny: Alpha Lira's Legend novel Chapter 198

Chapter 198 Old Friends and New Faces

Lira Voss’s POV:

I looked up to see Elder Wilson and his son, Brian.

I smiled, greeting them with a nod. “Elder Wilson, Mr. Wilson, Good to see you.

Fuished

They walked up to Gabriel, Brian offering a polite bow. “Gabriel, sorry we’re late. You know how it is.”

“You old dog, I thought you’d forgotten the way!” Gabriel joked. “If I didn’t throw a party once a year, I’d probably never see your face.”

Chester Wilson’s face was glowing with pride. “It’s been a crazy year. Ever since Lira helped my daughter- in-law, she’s been thriving. We’ve got a healthy grandson now, and the whole family is obsessed with the little guy.”

The mention of the baby brought a massive smile to Chester’s face, and he gave me a look full of genuine gratitude.

Gabriel’s eyes widened. “Wait, Lira was the one who helped your daughter-in-law too?”

“The one and only,” Chester bragged. “The girl’s a genius. My daughter-in-law took her medicine for a month and was pregnant by the third. I’m a believer.

“And that gift she just gave you? One box, one pill. She gave me one a while back, and I was saving it, but my wife found it and took it instead.

“The results were insane. She’s got the energy of a teenager who just had her first awakening. I’m jealous. I’m actually here to beg Lira for another box.”

Gabriel’s hand shot into his pocket, clutching the case as if he were worried someone would snatch it.

I couldn’t help but laugh at the two of them. They were like kids fighting over a toy.

The surrounding guests weren’t sneering anymore. The contempt was being replaced by a heavy. respectful curiosity.

Just then, Matthew and Stephen Hicks walked in, followed by a few younger members of the family.

“Dad, what’s all the noise about?” Matthew asked.

“Lira just gave me a treasure,” Cabriel said, beaming. “Unlike you ungrateful kids who only care about work, she actually looks after an old man’s health.”

Matthew looked at me and smiled. “Lira, long time no see.”

“Good to see you, Mr. Hicks,” I replied.

Suddenly, a young girl pushed her way to the front, staring at me for a long beat. “So, you’re the famous Lira Krom. You’re even more striking in person.”

Finished

I’m Phoebe Brooks. My grandfather talks about you constantly. He says if we were even half as talented as you, he’d die happy. I’ve been dying to meet you.”

She looked me over with clear, honest eyes. There wasn’t a trace of the usual high-rank arrogance or the disgust I usually got from other wolves.

Gregory chimed in from the side. “I sweat Phoebe is telling the truth. I was the one getting the lectures.”

“Phoebe, watch your manners,” Stephen barked his daughter, though he turned to me with a smile. “Lira, ignore her. She’s spoiled and doesn’t know when to keep her mouth shut.”

I laughed. “Actually, I like it. It’s rare to find someone so direct. That’s her best quality.”

I liked her vibe instantly. My wolf soul didn’t growl at her scent, which meant she was genuine.

Phoebe looked even more pleased with herself, tossing her father a look of triumph. “See? Some people actually appreciate a real personality. I don’t do the fake high-society mask.” She gave me a conspiratorial wink.

Stephen just shook his head. “As long as you’re happy, kid.”

Gabriel saw how well we were getting along and waved Phoebe over. “Phoebe, Lira came here alone tonight. I want you to host her and make sure she’s taken care of.”

“Don’t worry, Grandpa.” Phoebe said with a sharp, cool confidence. “I’ll look after your VIP.”

Gabriel nodded and went back to chatting with his friends.

Phoebe led me back out toward the main gala floor.

She grabbed two glasses of champagne and handed me one. “You’re still in school, right? A little champagne shouldn’t hurt.”

I took the glass and smiled. “Tonight is a celebration. I’m not going to sweat the small stuff.”

I really liked Phoebe’s energy. She was a pureblood noble from a high-rank line, but she wasn’t a bully. She had her own opinions and didn’t feel the need to use her rank to crush people.

“I like that attitude. ‘Don’t sweat the small stuff.’ You know, you’re younger than me and an Omega, but you carry yourself like a veteran. And you can actually talk to my grandfather,
